BOSTON, Mass. - Following a national search, Emmanuel College is pleased to announce the appointment of Brendan McWilliams as the Director of Athletics and Recreation. McWilliams becomes the College's fifth Athletic Director replacing Alexis Mastronardi who has served in this capacity since 2015.
According to Patricia Rissmeyer, Vice President for Student Affairs at Emmanuel, "Brendan McWilliams is a results-oriented professional who is deeply committed to student-athlete growth and development. He is smart, forward-thinking and collaborative. He understands and embraces the College mission and I am delighted to welcome him into the senior leadership role in the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Emmanuel."
McWilliams joined the Emmanuel community in 2010 as the first head coach for the Saints Men's Lacrosse program. Under his strong leadership, Coach McWilliams successfully facilitated the establishment of both the men's and women's lacrosse programs at Emmanuel. In addition to his head coaching responsibilities, Brendan currently serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation at Emmanuel overseeing athletic facility management and athletic training. Coach McWilliams will be stepping down from the position of Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse to lead the Emmanuel Department of Athletics and Recreation department as Director.
McWilliams has held positions in collegiate athletics for nearly two decades. In addition to Emmanuel College, Brendan held coaching positions at Tufts University, the University of Vermont and Kenyon College. Throughout his career in athletics, he has been dedicated to the development of the whole student-athlete from recruitment to graduation. McWilliams has been recognized by several professional associations for his achievements including the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) which named him in 2014 as GNAC Coach of the Year.
"I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to serve as the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Emmanuel," said McWilliams. "I look forward to continuing to develop athletic programs that make our students, fans, and alumni proud. My family and I are truly grateful to the College for allowing me to move into this leadership position."
McWilliams earned a bachelor's degree in English from Colorado College in 1998. As a student-athlete at Colorado, he was a two-time captain of the lacrosse team and was selected to play in the prestigious North-South All-Star game. He also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University. Brendan currently resides in South Hamilton, Massachusetts with his wife Juliana, their children Finnegan, Cortland, Hazel and Magnolia and their dogs, Peanut and Murphy.
