Four GNAC Administrators Receive NCAA Regional Advisory Committee Appointments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GNAC RAC REPRESENTATIVES

WINTHROP, Mass. – Four administrators across the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) have been newly appointed to various NCAA Division III Regional Advisory Committees (RAC), it was announced on Thursday by the league office.

The appointments include Saint Joseph's College of Maine Assistant Athletics Director for Communication & Game Management Corey McCarthy (men's golf), Anna Maria College head men's lacrosse coach Nate Mayo (men's lacrosse), Regis (Mass.) head women's lacrosse coach Courtney Duggan (women's lacrosse), and Rivier University Athletic Director Joanne Merrill (men's volleyball). Each administrator is beginning a three-year term this academic year, with the respective terms expiring in 2021.

For Regional Advisory Committees, conferences must appoint individuals to an advisory committee to assist in the evaluation of teams during the selection of championship participants. The committees do not have the authority to select teams and/or individuals; they strictly act in an advisory capacity. The final authority for selections rests with the national governing sports committee.

Members of the governing sports committees shall serve as chairs of the regional advisory committees. As a standard practice, the committee chair conducts telephone conference calls with all of its RAC members to evaluate the potential participants and regional sites within the region. Each conference sponsoring the respective sport (with seven or more members) must have equal representation.

McCarthy replaced Johnson & Wales University (RI) head golf coach Lou Parente on the men's golf committee, while Mayo relieves Emmanuel College Director of Athletics and Recreation Brendan McWilliams for men's lacrosse. Duggan takes over for Rivier head field hockey/women's lacrosse coach Ellen (Maruszewski) Persson, and Merrill slides in for former Mount Ida College head volleyball coach Craig Martin.

In addition to these new appointments, nine other coaches and administrators across the GNAC currently serve on an NCAA Division III RAC. For the complete list of RAC positions within the conference, please see below or click the link above.
