GNAC Men’s Tennis Weekly Honors: April 26

Jared Orkin (Suffolk) and Fritz Kaelber (Norwich) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Men’s Tennis Weekly Honors.

Orkin was named the GNAC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player after winning the match clincher in the 3rd singles position, topping Emerson’s Mark Jackman, 7-6, in the 3rd tiebreaking set.  Suffolk defeated Emerson, 5-4, to win the 2010 GNAC Men’s Tennis Championship on April 24.  Orkin rallied back after losing the 1st set, 6-4.  He topped Jackman, 6-2, in the 2nd set to even things up going into the 3rd tiebreaking set.  The Rams defeated Norwich, 8-1, in the semifinals on April 22.  Orkin currently is undefeated this season, with a 7-0 singles record and a 6-0 doubles record.  The Rams take their undefeated 10-0 record on the road when the team faces Salem State on April 29.

Kaelber capped his impressive freshman season with a perfect 9-0 singles record, competing exclusively at the No. 2 spot.  Kaelber posted Norwich’s only point in the Cadets’ 8-1 loss to Suffolk in the GNAC Tournament semifinals on April 22.  Norwich defeated Lyndon State, 6-3, on April 20.  This is the 3rd time this season that Kaelber has been named a GNAC Rookie of the Week.  He was previously honored on March 29 and April 5.
