
GNAC Womens Basketball Showdown: Dowen Versus Dowen

The Dowen sisters from Burlington, VT will square off on the parquet when Johnson & Wales faces Albertus Magnus on Jan. 28. This is the lone regular season game that will pit Dowen against Dowen this season. If both teams qualify for the post-season, the sisters could be battling for the 2010 GNAC Women's Basketball Championship, which begins on Feb. 23.
Kendra Dowen, a senior at Albertus Magnus, is averaging 5.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season. Kendra and the Lady Falcons are riding a six-game winning-streak into Thursday's matchup against the Wildcats. Allyson Dowen, a freshman at Johnson & Wales, scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Wildcats to a 76-71 victory over Rivier on Jan. 23. Allyson is averaging 12.6 points per game, ranking the younger Dowen 13th in the GNAC in scoring. Allyson is also ranked 14th in the GNAC in free throw percentage (.724) and 8th in 3-point field goal percentage (.367).
Albertus Magnus is currently in a four-way tie for 1st place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 4-1 and an overall record of 8-9. Johnson & Wales trails by one game, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 8-9. Following this week's showdown, both siblings return to the court on Jan. 30 when the Wildcats host Emerson and the Lady Falcons play St. Joseph's (ME).
