Three GNAC Baseball Players Selected D3Baseball.com Honorable Mention All-Americans
Saint Joseph’s College junior Pat Moran (Winterport, ME) and sophomore Ian Lee (Hampden, ME), along with Suffolk University junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) were all selected as All-American Honorable Mention by D3Baseball.com for 2009.

Six GNAC Baseball Players Selected To NEIBA All-New England
The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) has released its 2009 All-New England DIII Baseball teams and six Great Northeast Athletic Conference players have been honored. Saint Joseph’s junior Pat Moran ’10 (Winterport, ME) and Suffolk senior Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) both garnered first team honors as a designated hitter and pitcher, respectively. Earning third team honors for St. Joseph’s are junior first basemen Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME) and sophomore utility player Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH). Earning third team honors for Suffolk are junior catcher Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) and senior pitcher Dan Delia (Boston, MA).

Gentile, Karl Named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District Teams
Two Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball student-athletes earned recognition for their performance in the classroom as well as the athletic field this spring. Suffolk junior outfielder Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) and Emerson junior outfielder Peter Karl (Wallingford, CT) were both named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-District teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

2009 Suffolk Baseball Season Comes to Close
The 2009 baseball season for the Suffolk University (30-11) came to a close as the Rams took their second loss in the NCAA New England Regional Tournament. The Eastern Connnecticut State Warriors (36-7), who entered the tournament as the top seed and ranked third nationally, pounded the Rams 13-2 in the elimination game. EConn pounded out 16 hits, including their top two hitters going a combined 9-for-11 to cruise to the victory. The Rams scattered seven hits throughout the game but could not muster a big hit to keep them in the game as they left 10 runners on base. The Warriors spread the game open scoring twice in the sixth and added five runs in the seventh and did not look back.

Rams Drop NCAA Opener
The Suffolk University Baseball team (30-10) dropped the opener of the NCAA New England Regional Tournament, 7-6 to WPI (29-11) Wednesday morning. Junior Joe Walsh (Weymouth, MA) hit a check swing single over the first base bag in the eighth inning to knock in the go-ahead run as the Engineers squashed a late rally by the Rams to take the opener of the tournament.

Suffolk Baseball Set to Open Up NCAA Tournament Wednesday
The Suffolk University Baseball team (30-9) will open up the NCAA New England Regional Tournament on Wednesday as they take on Worcester Polytech Institute (28-11). The Rams have been slotted with the # 5 seed in the tournament. Suffolk and WPI will open up the tournament as Game 1 on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. Eastern Connecticut State University is hosting this year's New England Regional Tournament.

Suffolk Captures 2009 GNAC Baseball Title
In one of the craziest weekends of baseball, the Suffolk University Rams (27-8) outlasted host St. Joseph's College (28-12) on Sunday in the final game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, 15-6. St. Joseph's pulled off a dramatic victory in the first game of the day erasing a 4-0 deficit to beat the Rams 6-5 and force the extra game. Both teams were involved in a slugfest on Saturday, 22-21 as the Rams were victorious to advance in the winner's bracket. With all the controversy surrounding the new Yankee Stadium, St. Joseph's Larry Mahaney Diamond was host to five games during the weekend tournament that saw a combined 112 runs scored. By winning the tournament the Rams now advance to the NCAA Regionals. It will be Suffolk's fourth regional appearance since 2000.

The 2009 GNAC Baseball Playoff pairings are now available. The Saint Joseph’s College Monks earned the first seed with a 13-1 GNAC record and 25-10 record overall.

Moran Collects Weekly Regional Honor
The Eastern College Athletic Conference has announced its weekly honors and Saint Joseph’s College junior Pat Moran (Winterport, ME/Hampden Academy) has been named as the New England Region DIII Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Moran collects the regional accolade after being named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the reporting period ending April 11th.

Cary McConnell Picks Up Career Win No. 400
Suffolk University Head Baseball Coach Cary McConnell picked up the 400th win of his career Tuesday evening as the Rams rolled to a 19-6 victory over Fitchburg State College. The win now moves the Rams record to 16-4 on the 2009 season. McConnell, who is in his 14th season at Suffolk has now guided the Rams to 345 victories since his hiring in 1996. In his tenure at Suffolk, McConnell has taken his program to three NCAA Regional appearances, three GNAC Tournament Championships, and five ECAC Tournament bids. His 2000 team set a school record with 38 wins that season, as well as winning the ECAC Tournament Championship. That 2000 season pitching staff also led all NCAA Divison III in ERA that season posting a 2.69. He was named GNAC Coach of the Year in the 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008 seasons.

St. Joe's (Maine) Selected First in Preseason Coaches' Poll
Defending GNAC tournament champion St. Joe’s has been chosen as the baseball preseason favorite of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in a vote conducted by the league’s coaches. The Monks, who despite starting conference play 0-4 battled back to earn their first GNAC conference title after just one year of competition in the GNAC, received four first place votes and a total of 51 points in the GNAC baseball preseason poll.

Saint Joseph's (Maine) Larry Mahaney Diamond Receives ABCA/TURFACE Field Maintenance Award
STANDISH, ME – The American Baseball Coaches Association has announced that Saint Joseph’s College has been awarded the 2008 College Division ABCA/TURFACE Field Maintenance Award for Larry Mahaney Diamond. The prestigious honor is granted on a yearly basis to one college recipient across all divisions that has shown outstanding maintenance programs in both infield and turf care. Along with the award, Saint Joseph’s will receive one ton of TURFACE MVP infield conditioner and $400 to be spent on maintenance equipment.

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph’s and Gordon College joined together for an excellent cause in conjunction with their day of fall ball games on September 20th. Players and parents from both squads, asked to bring non-perishable food items, produced an impressive amount of groceries to be donated to Catherine’s Cupboard Food Pantry.

Kreckie, Hebenstreit Awarded 2008 GNAC Sportsmanship Awards
Saint Joseph's (ME) Michael Hebenstreit and Simmons College's Lauren Kreckie have been chosen as the 2008 GNAC Sportsmanship Award recipients. The Conference award qualifies both Michael and Lauren for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award that is presented later this summer.

Saint Joseph’s College (ME) Crowned 2008 GNAC Baseball Champions
NASHUA, NH - Saint Joseph's College (25-13, 8-6 GNAC) defeated top seed Suffolk University (25-10, 14-0 GNAC), 6-5, in the GNAC Championship game on Sunday at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. The conference title secures a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, the Monks' third consecutive berth, which takes place May 14-17th. Starting pitcher SO Pat Moran (Winterport, ME) allowed 5 hits and struck out 4 in 7.2 strong innings against the Rams to pick up his fourth win and SO Andrew Keirstead (Westbrook, ME) tossed 1.1 innings in relief to notch his second save of the season.
