WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second straight year, Wentworth Institute of Technology has earned the top seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Tournament. The Leopards and second-seeded Lasell College both earn byes into Thursday evening's semifinals, while third-seeded Rivier University and fourth-seeded Johnson & Wales University will host first-round contests on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
Sixth-seeded Emmanuel College will be at Rivier Tuesday night, with the winner advancing to take on Lasell on Thursday. In Tuesday's other first-round tournament matchup, JWU will host fifth-seeded Emerson College, with top-seeded Wentworth awaiting the winner in the semifinals.
Both Wentworth and Lasell are currently nationally ranked in the weekly AVCA poll, with the Leopards coming in at No.7 in the country and the Lasers in the No. 11 spot. Meanwhile, in the latest regional rankings, Wentworth and Lasell are second and third, respectively, behind only Springfield, while Rivier is ranked fifth in the East Region, which was released on Thursday.
Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
