Aine Scholand, Simmons So., Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Scholand was named the NEISDA Swimmer of the Meet as she won all three individual events that she entered, while breaking the school and meet record in all of them to lead the Sharks to their first-ever NEISDA Championship. Scholand shattered the 22-year old NEISDA record for the 1650-yard freestyle (16:55.51), good for a pool record at URI. She finished the meet with five gold medals to go with a silver and became just the second competitor in school history to win three individual gold medals during the NEISDA meet and the only competitor in school history to break three meet records. Scholand also won the1000-yard freestyle (10:09.47) and 500-yard freestyle (4:56.98 ). Scholand contributed to Simmons’ combined winning time of 7:48.37 in the 800-yard freestyle relay as well as the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.38). Additionally, she was a part of the Simmons’ contingent that placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.75.
