Senior Alex Torres (Framingham, Mass.) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Co-Pitcher of the Week Pitcher of the Week on April 17. The ECAC is the nation’s largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with approximately 300 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois.
Torres guided the Suffolk University Baseball team to a 4-0 victory of game one of the Rams doubleheader on Saturday at St. Joseph's College.
Torres handled the Monks, only allowing two single whiles striking out five in seven innings of work en route to his first shutout of the season. It was the first time since the 2007 season that the Monks were unable to cross the plate at their home Larry Mehany Diamond.
Torres is 4-3 on the mound in 2011 for Suffolk appearing in eight games, starting seven. He also has recorded one save in his lone relief appearance on the year. The Rams ace has logged 47 innings thus far in the season, striking out 47 hitters. He is currently tops among pitchers in the GNAC in innings pitched and strikeouts, while hitters have only hit .232 against the big righthander, also a league best.
