INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - Commissioner Joe Walsh, Sports Information Director Tom Humphreys, and Assistant Sports Information Director Garrett Quinn attended the Division III Commissioners Association Meeting held June 15th through June 17th in Indianapolis. Over 100 members of Division III schools across the country attended the three-day event.
This year’s conference featured speakers who engaged
attendees with a variety of topics, ranging from financial aid
reporting to DIII diversity and student-athlete well being.
Comprised of seasoned and emerging Commissioners
and Sports Information Directors, the speakers helped members solve
problems concerning bench size and drug education and
testing. Additionally, the panel and the NCAA members
discussed innovative ways to use current technology to enhance the
DIII experience and share the stories of the DIII student-athlete
using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
The NCAA DIII members discussed their recent partnership with the
Special Olympics. NCAA Division III championships
administrators and local organizing committees have reached out to
Special Olympics agencies in the past, but even more so since the
Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee selected Special
Olympics as its future community-engagement partner at the 2011
NCAA Convention.
