GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh Receives DIII Commissioner's Association Appreciation Award
GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh was honored and recognized by the DIIICA in Denver for his 10 years of service at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

DENVER, Colo. – Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Commissioner Joe Walsh was honored by the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) on June 9 in recognition of his 10 years of service at the GNAC office.
Walsh (pictured back, right) became the GNAC’s first full-time commissioner in 2005. Prior to that he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Emmanuel College, head women’s basketball coach and athletic director at Emerson College and an assistant women’s basketball coach at Harvard University.
Also receiving 2015 DIIICA Appreciation Awards in Denver was NACC Commissioner Steve Larson (20 years), MIAC Commissioner Dan McKane (10 years), NAC Commissioner Julie Muller (10 years), NEAC Commissioner Candice Poiss Murray (10 years) and SCIAC Commissioner Lorin Sanchez (10 years).
Walsh has spent over 30 years involved in athletics at the community level within the City of Boston as a coach and an administrator. He currently serves on the NCAA DIII Membership Committee and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2013.
He is past president of both the Allston and the Brighton Boards of Trade, Allston Brighton Kiwanis, the co-chair of the Brian J. Honan Charitable Foundation, has served on the ECAC Award of Valor Committee, and the ECAC Women’s Basketball Selection Committee and the board of directors at the West End House Boy’s & Girl’s Club. He was the Director of Community Relations at Boston University for 15 years.
Walsh is a member of the DIII Commissioner’s Association and The National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIAA), of which he is the incoming president.
Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
