WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is thrilled to unveil its 2022-23 Championships Schedule, which gets underway with eight GNAC championships this fall as part of a 22-event slate.
FALL 2022
The first GNAC Championship of the 2022-23 academic year will once again be our men's golf championship, which this fall will be hosted by reigning conference champion Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Monday-Tuesday, October 10-11 at Biddeford-Saco Country Club in Saco, Maine. SJC also hosted at Biddeford-Saco CC for the 2019 GNAC Championship and a year ago and claimed the 2021-22 GNAC team title at New Haven Country Club, hosted by Albertus Magnus College. Albertus won the 2020-21 GNAC team title, and Norwich University also enters the GNAC men's golf landscape in 2022 after announcing this past spring it was adding the program.
The GNAC Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22 at the highest remaining seed. The tournament's first round and semifinals are set for Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 15.
Saint Joseph's of Maine will also host the 2022 GNAC Cross Country Championships on campus in Standish, Maine, with the women's 6K race commencing at 1:00 PM, followed by the men's 8K race at 2:00 PM.
The GNAC will conclude its fall slate on Saturday, November 5 with its field hockey, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball championships, with the title contests hosted by the highest remaining seeds.
WINTER 2022-23
Following the holidays, the GNAC Swimming & Diving Championships will again take place at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass. on February 2-5. This year's event will not coincide with the Super Bowl, which is scheduled for Feb. 12. The eight participating programs are Albertus Magnus, Colby-Sawyer College, Elms College, Norwich, Regis College, University of Saint Joseph (CT), Saint Joseph's of Maine, and Simmons University (women only).
The third-ever GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will again take place at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 12, featuring Colby-Sawyer, Emmanuel College, Lasell University, Regis, and Saint Joseph's of Maine.
The GNAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament Championship contests are scheduled for Saturday, February 25, with the quarterfinals and semifinals slated for Tuesday and Thursday of that week. For one year only, the GNAC expanded its 2021-22 Basketball Tournaments to 12 teams due to inequities created by the COVID-19 surge last winter. The 2022-23 Tournaments will resort back to an eight-team playoff, as the USJ men and Emmanuel women have captured each of the last two GNAC titles in 2020 and 2022.
SPRING 2023
As always, the GNAC will open up its spring championship schedule with its men's volleyball tournament, as the highest seed is set to host on Saturday, April 15. Associate member Wentworth Institute of Technology has taken home three of the last five GNAC Championships, plus an at-large berth to the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament when other GNAC members were unable to sponsor a full season due to COVID-19. Longtime GNAC powerhouse Rivier University last won conference titles back-to-back in 2018-19, while Lasell won it back in 2015 and was a nationally-ranked threat virtually all of the 2022 campaign.
The GNAC will present its fourth-ever outdoor track & field championship on Sunday, April 23, with Saint Joseph's of Maine hosting the event for the first time. Regis College hosted in 2018 and 2019 before Colby-Sawyer graciously hosted in 2022.
The GNAC Men's Tennis Tournament will get underway with first-round action on Wednesday, Apr. 19, followed by the semis and finals on Apr. 22 and Apr. 29, at the highest seeds. Last year, associate member Eastern Nazarene College won its second straight conference championship, with its previous coming back in 2019 due to COVID-19 halts.
The GNAC Men's and Women's Lacrosse Tournaments are set to conclude on Saturday, May 6 at the highest remaining seeds. Both quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, Apr. 29, with the men's semis that past Tuesday and the women's semis that previous Wednesday.
To conclude the GNAC's massive 22-sport championship schedule, its 2023 Baseball and Softball Championships are scheduled to finish on Sunday, May 7.
The GNAC Baseball Tournament's Sat-Sun, double-elimination, four-team portion will be hosted by the No. 1 regular-season seed.
The GNAC Softball Tournament's Sat-Sun, double-elimination, six-team portion will be hosted by the No. 1 South seed.
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 14 member institutions and over 3,500 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 22 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
