2010 GNAC Baseball All-Conference

First Team All-Conference

Pitcher- Sam Murray, St. Joseph’s ME, So., Walpole, Mass.

The Monks’ sophomore pitcher, Sam Murray, has been honored as the 2010 GNAC Pitcher of the Year and also named to the first team all-conference. In 40.2 innings pitched, he allowed 40 hits, 9 runs, earned 24 strikeouts, and only 1 walk. He currently is ranked 3^rd in the GNAC for his ERA of 1.99 and has led the Monks to 5 victories. Murray leads the NCAA Division III in Fewest Walks per nine innings (.22).  

Pitcher- Marc Doyle, Suffolk, Sr., Whitman, Mass.

The Rams’ pitcher, Marc Doyle, led Suffolk to a first place regular season finish with his five key victories. Doyle did not allow one run to cross the plate in all three of his conference starts and led the league with a .87 ERA. The senior pitcher threw 31 innings, allowed 25 hits, only 5 runs scored, totaled 37 strikeouts and 12 walks.

Catcher- Bobby Barrett, Suffolk, Sr., Milton, Mass.

Suffolk’s senior catcher, Bobby Barrett, has been named to this year’s first team all-conference. After the regular season, Barrett ranked 1^st in the GNAC conference with his batting average of .470, 2^nd in hits (55), and 4^th in slugging percentage (.701) and on-base percentage. He has roped in 32 RBIs, with 11 doubles, 5 triples and 2 homeruns; and has hit in 26 out of the 31 games played. Recently, Barrett was honored as the 2010 Suffolk University’s Most Valuable Player.

Infield- Jonathan Melendez, Johnson & Wales, Providence, R.I.  

Jonathan Melendez, the Wildcats third baseman, has been awarded a spot on the 2010 all-conference team as an infielder. The senior has started in every game this year totaling 143 at bats and earning 60 hits, ranking him 1^st in the conference. Melendez also leads the GNAC in doubles (13), homeruns (11), total bases (112) and is second in RBIs (43) and slugging percentage (.783). This power hitter, not only drives the ball but also has a good eye, earning him 20 walks. Melendez is one of the best players in school history; being ranked in the top five in every statistical category in JWU baseball.

Infield- Ben Grant-Roy, St. Joseph’s ME, Biddeford, ME

The Monks’ senior first baseman led St. Joseph’s to a second place regular season finish and a 2010 conference championship. The three-time first team all-conference player has a .400 batting average, tallying 44 hits with 10 doubles, 4 homeruns and 18 walks. He brings in a slugging percentage of .618 with 37 RBIs. Grant-Roy not only can produce offensively but is spectacular at first as well, making only 3 errors in 288 chances accounting for a fielding percentage of .990.

Infield- Ryan O’Conner, Rivier, Sr., Medford, Mass.

Rivier’s shortstop, Ryan O’Conner has been named to this year’s all-conference team. The senior captain has totaled 36 hits in 82 at bats, with an overall batting average of .439. O’Conner can easily place the ball, which has earned him several hits in the right- centerfield gap.

Infield- Nick Alosco, Johnson & Wales, Jr., Mahopac, NY  

Johnson & Wales junior second baseman, Nick Alosco, has been named to the 2010 all-conference team. Alosco finished the regular season as 3^rd in the GNAC for runs scored, 3^rd for RBIs with 40, 2^nd in triples (6), and 3^rd in total bases (94). In the field, he has earned 59 put outs with 110 assists recording a fielding percentage of .944.

Outfield- Todd Keneborus, St. Joseph’s ME, Hollis Center, ME 

St. Joseph’s junior outfielder Todd Keneborus has awarded as this year’s Player of the Year and named to the first team all-conference. Keneborus has not only earned conference honors, but has been recognized nationally as well and on April 15^th was named National Division III Hitter of the Week and has been ranked 1^st in NCAA Division III for triples (13) and 2^nd in triple per game (.34). He finished the regular season at the top of the GNAC in batting average (.462), slugging percentage (.862), RBIs (57), and triples (13). He ranks second in OBP, runs (46), hits (60), doubles (14), and total bases. Keneborus is an outstanding outfielder achieving 51 put outs with only one error, with zero in conference play.

Outfield- Andrew Babb, Suffolk, Jr., Ashland, Mass.

Suffolk’s right fielder, Andrew Babb, has been named to the all-conference team as an outfielder. The junior is second on the Rams in several offensive categories including batting average (.426), hits (43), obp (.492), and home runs (3). Babb has hit a remarkable .500 in conference with a .810 slugging percentage and 1.000 fielding percentage.

Outfield- Rory Gentile, Suffolk, Sr., Gloucester, Mass.

The Rams’ center fielder, Rory Gentile, has been named to the all-conference first team. Gentile has started all 31 games played, recording 120 at bats with 36 hits totaling a batting average of .300. He has earned 10 doubles, 4 triples and 2 homeruns, but his greatest strength is his ability to get on base and cross the plate. Gentile has earned 16 walks, stolen 10 bases and scored 34 runs. He has earned 57 put outs, with only one error in the field.

Designated Hitter- Erik Suraci, Albertus Magnus, Sr., West Haven, Conn.

The Falcons senior utility player, Erik Suraci, has been named to this year’s all-conference first team. Suraci has been the offensive driving force throughout the past four years, earning over 100 career hits. He has played second base, first base, and was a designated hitter when he wasn’t in the field. In 114 plate appearances, he has managed 44 hits, with 9 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homeruns, earning a batting average of .386. In the field he has made 127 put outs with 23 assists for an average of .938.

Utility- Pat Moran, St. Joseph’s ME, Sr., Winterport, ME

St. Joseph’s key player, Pat Moran, has been named to the 2010 first team all-conference as a utility. Moran has spent time at first base, designated hitter and left field. The senior captain ranked 2^nd in homeruns (8) in the conference and has earned 30 hits with 34 RBIs and a batting average of .319.

Coach of the Year- Cary McConnell, Suffolk University

Coach McConnell has finished his 15^th season coaching for the Rams, earning a record of 13-1 in the GNAC, and 21-15 overall. This is the fifth time he has taken home the Coach of the Year award. McConnell has brought the Rams to four NCAA Championships, and this year brought them to a first place regular season finish for the sixth time this year.
