GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 1
Colby-Sawyer took home a pair of Week 1 honors after a 2-0 week against Elms and Plymouth State.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Aoife Daly, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, F - Harwich, Mass.) - Daly had two game-winning goals in two games for the Chargers, totaling four goals for eight points. She had three goals in the Chargers' 4-2 victory over Plymouth State for the program's first win over PSI in school history after tallying the decider in a 2-1 win at Elms in GNAC play. |

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK Lauren Wilkinson, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, GK - Lynn, Mass.) - In a 2-0 week, Wilkinson made 12 saves while allowing just three goals for an .800 save percentage. After making four stops in a 2-1 GNAC win on the road over Elms, she had eight saves in Colby-Sawyer's first-ever program victory at Plymouth State, a 4-2 win. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Sydney Gonyea, Simmons (First Year, A - Lebanon, N.H.) - Gonyea guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, which included the Sharks' first win in program-history over Clark to open the season on Wednesday. Against the Cougars, Gonyea recorded a hat-trick scoring the first goal of the contest in the 23rd minute to breakup up the scoreless tie that lasted throughout the entire first quarter. She added to the Shark lead in the the 41st minute and seven minutes later notched her third in the 48th minute. Additionally, the Lebanon, N.H. native connected with fellow first-year Cameron Jester for the final Simmons goal in 57th minute. Gonyea closed out the week helping the Sharks to their third straight victory against non-conference foe UMass-Dartmouth, shutting out the Corsairs, 4-0. |
HONOR ROLL
Mikayla Lyston, Albertus Magnus (Jr., GK - Medford, N.Y.) - Lyston was outstanding for the Falcons to open the 2021 season, as the junior keeper tallied a whopping 39 saves over two appearances. In the Falcons' opener, Lyston turned away 14 of 15 shots to help guide Albertus to overtime vs. St. Joseph (Conn.) in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss. She then tallied 25 more saves against Elms in the Falcons' GNAC opener on Saturday.
Nora Newman, Elms (Senior, GK) - Newman made 13 saves on 15 shots in a 1-1 week, stopping 10 of 12 shots in a 2-1 setback against Colby-Sawyer before making three saves in a 7-0 shutout against Albertus Magnus.
Jillian Miele, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., F - Wilmington, Mass.) - Miele picked up where she closed out her record setting 2019 season. Miele grabbed a pair of goals in JWU's 5-2 win over Eastern Connecticut with one of the tallies proving to be the game-winning goal. She is averaging four shots a game after the Wildcats 1-1 week.
Aimee Adams, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (2023, M - Gardiner, Maine) - Adams notched a goal and an assist in the Monks' 3-2 victory over Skidmore College at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
