YORK, Pa. – The JWU (Providence) field hockey team was defeated by York (PA) College 2-0 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Wednesday evening at Kinsley Field.
The Wildcats finish the 2024 season with a record of 18-4; the 18 wins is the second-highest total in program history, behind only the 2022 squad which won 19 games.
The Spartans (17-5) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal seven minutes into the second quarter when Libby Wild netted her seventh of the season. The home team closed the first half with a 7-0 edge in shots.
York doubled its lead late in the third on its fifth shot of the stanza by Kelbie Linebaugh with 45 seconds remaining. JWU was outshot 14-0 in the contest and received one penalty corner with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Sophomore goalie Sophia Brea recorded nine saves for the Wildcats.
