Murphy 10th St. Joe's (ME) Player to Reach 1,400 Career Points

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball standout Elbie Murphy ‘09 (Loudonville, NY/Albany Academy) is the 10th player in program history to reach the 1,400-point plateau. The senior forward scored 12 points in a loss to conference-rival Emerson College on Saturday, February 14th to reach the mark.

With 1,403 career points, Murphy currently ranks 9th on the SJC men’s basketball all-time scoring list. With his effort in the loss to Emerson, the senior passed St. Joe’s Hall of Famer John Alexander '74, who has 1,402. Another SJC Hall member, Steve Schuler '94, is in 7th with 1,457 points. Through 103 games in his four seasons, he has 488 rebounds and is 12 shy of becoming the third player in team history to amass 1,400 points, 500 boards and 300 assists in their career.

Murphy’s name is scattered throughout the Monks Basketball record book. He broke the program’s career steals record on December 9th against Husson and has tallied 308 career thefts. His 126 steals in 2007 stands as a single-season record at Saint Joseph’s, as does his 4.2 steals per game average that year, which led all NCAA levels.

The Monks are 16-7 overall, 10-6 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, this season and hold the fourth spot in the division standings with a pair of GNAC games left on the docket. St. Joe's travels to Emmanuel College (14-9, 11-5 GNAC) on Tuesday to take on the Saints at 7:30 PM and will host Lasell College (16-7, 13-3 GNAC), currently the top team in the league, on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
