GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 9

( FOR THE WEEK OF JAN. 7-13 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Stefan Masciarelli, Lasell (Jr., G - Northbridge, Mass.) Masciarelli averaged 36.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting an impressive 56/59/86% in a pair of GNAC victories. He poured in a career-high 39 points (15-28 FG, 6-10 3PT) on Tuesday night to go with eight rebounds, six assists and three steals in a big win over Saint Joseph's of Maine – which went on to defeat Albertus Magnus later in the week – to snap the Monks' eight-game win streak. On Saturday in a road victory over Rivier, he went for 33 points (13-22 FG, 4-7 3PT), six rebounds and three assists without turning it over.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Hartford, Conn.) Jackson Jr. averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in conference clashes against Colby-Sawyer, Emmanuel and Saint Joseph's of Maine last week as USJ began GNAC play. Jackson Jr. highlighted the week with a 34-point (12-22 FG, 7-11 3PT) outburst in a tough road loss at SJC on Saturday, which included 19 points in the second half. He also finished in double figures on Tuesday at Colby-Sawyer with a 15-point, eight-rebound, five-assist performance against the at Colby-Sawyer. On the week, Jackson Jr. shot 48/53/64% and averaged 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL
Mike Rapoza, Anna Maria (Jr., F - Charlton, Mass.) - Rapoza averaged 13.0 points, 17,5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in losses to Albertus and Colby-Sawyer, posting eight points and 21 rebounds at Albertus last Tuesday before contributing 18 points (4-4 FG, 10-13 FT) and 14 boards against the Chargers. He shot 75% (6-8 FG) overall and went 14-of-18 from the FT line

Dana Bean, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Franklin, N.H.) - In a 2-1 week, Bean averaged 17.7 points and 11.7 rebounds, while shooting 61% (25-41 FG). After a monster 20-point, 16-rebound double-double against USJ in the first-ever GNAC contest for both teams, he had 11 points and 11 boards in a road loss to JWU for his sixth double-double of the season. Bean finished the week with a game-high 22 points (11-13 FG) to go with eight rebounds in an 86-80 GNAC win at Anna Maria, in which he became the program's 20th player to exceed 1,000 career points.

Joe Tamburro, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - South Windsor, Conn.) - Tamburro helped Emmanuel post a 2-0 record by averaging 31.5 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 67/64/75% against USJ and Pine Manor. The senior scored 26 points (10-17 FG, 6-11 3PT) off the bench, including the game-winning three, over Jim Calhoun's Blue Jays in GNAC action on Thursday and followed it up with a career-high 37 points (10-13 FG, 8-11 3PT) on Saturday against PMC. 

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.) - Hogan-Gary averaged 25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals in a 2-1 week as the Wildcats began GNAC play. He shot 60.4% (29-48 FG) overall and was 19-of-26 from the FT line. He had 27 points (12-19 FG), 13 boards and five steals in a win over Norwich before dropping 26 points and 18 rebounds (eight turnovers) in a win over Colby-Sawyer. He closed the week with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting as JWU fell on the road at Suffolk, 77-67. 

Dimitri Rosa, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., G - Tiverton, R.I.) - After playing 16 minutes in a loss to Suffolk, Rosa had 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, all of which came from beyond the arc, in a 66-56 win over Norwich in the Pride's GNAC opener.

Jack Casale, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., G - Portland, Maine) - Casale averaged 24.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 53/46/82% in a 2-1 week in GNAC play, which included wins over longtime conference powerhouse Albertus Magnus and Jim Calhoun's new USJ squad. In the Monks' lone loss at Lasell, which snapped an eight-game win streak, the sophomore had 20 points and eight boards. Against Albertus at home on Thursday, he poured in 28 points (11-21 FG, 4-10 3PT) to go with eight caroms and four assists, before registering 26 points (9-13 FG, 5-9 3PT) and seven rebounds while playing all 40 minutes against USJ on Saturday.

Ian Mileikis, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., G - Auburn, Maine) - In a 2-1 week that featured key wins over Connecticut schools Albertus and USJ, Mileikis averaged 26.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists, while registering a 30-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist triple-double with zero turnovers and four steals in the 98-87 victory over USJ. After posting 22 points (9-13 FG) with seven boards in a 98-97 loss at Lasell, Mileikis had 26 points (11-15 FG), four rebounds and six assists in the 104-85 win over Albertus. Against USJ, he was an impressive 10-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the FT line and for the week shot 75/33/76%. 

Steven DiPrizio, Suffolk (Jr., F - Medford, Mass.) - In 2-0 week of GNAC play, which included a home victory over 2018-19 top preseason poll choice Johnson & Wales, DiPrizio averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 68.4% (13-19 FG) overall and 7-of-8 from the FT line. He scored 10 points in just 17 minutes of action in a 30-point win over Regis before going off for 23 points (10-15 FG, 3-4 FT) and 14 rebounds in a key 77-67 win over the Wildcats – the Rams' first since 2011.
