GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 4
Lasell's Kevin Nunez averaged an impressive 29.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 53.3% from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Lasers.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kevin Nunez, Lasell (Sr., G - Dorchester, Mass.) - Nunez averaged 29.0 points and 10.5 rebounds, shooting 53.3% from the field (24-45) in a 2-0 week for the Lasers. In Tuesday's 89-68 non-conference victory over Wheaton, he scored 24 points (9-20 FG, 2-4 3PT, 4-7 FT) and brought down seven boards while committing just one turnover. In a GNAC opening 86-71 win at Rivier, he poured in 34 points on 15-of-25 from the field and 4-of-5 from the FT line to go with 14 rebounds (five offensive), four steals and two blocks while committing only two turnovers.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Gabe Armstead, Anna Maria (So., F - Dallas, Ga.) - Armstead helped power the AMCATS to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting a blitering 63.6% from the field, as well as 7-of-10 from the FT line. The now two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week averaged 27.0 minutes per contest, registering 11 points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3PT, 2-5 FT) with eight boards in an 83-63 win over Framingham State before scoring 25 points (10-16 FG, 5-5 FT) to go with nine rebounds and three assists in a 93-78 GNAC win over Johnson & Wales.

HONOR ROLL
Tyreek Perkins, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Perkins led the way for the Falcons over their two games last week, pacing the team with 17.5 points per game to go along with 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, all while shooting a scorching .545 (6-for-11) from 3-point range. In the first game, the senior guard finished one board shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in Albertus' hard-fought contest against Middlebury on Thursday. He then led the Falcons to an 85-73 win over Saint Joseph's (Me.) to open GNAC play on Saturday. Perkins poured in 23 points, eight rebounds, and four assists against the Monks in an all-around performance.
Ralph Grasso, Jr., Anna Maria (Sr., G - Marlborough, Mass.) - Grasso continued his hot shooting this past week, averaging 21.0 points per game while shooting 44.4 percent from behind the arc. The team captain was dominant down the stretch against Johnson & Wales on Saturday, hitting two big threes down the stretch. The senior also averaged 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
Kevin Cummings, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, G - Portsmouth, N.H.) - In a 2-1 week, the first-year sharpshooter averaged 20.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting an impressive 65.6% from the floor (21-32) and 58.3% from three (14-24). Cummings began the week with a 23-point, eight-rebound effort in a GNAC victory over Elms. He followed up with 16- and 21-point performances over the weekend in the Ed Hockenbury Tournamentat Norwich.
Donte Pope, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, G - Middletown, Conn.) - In the Saints' lone game of the week – a 67-59 non-league victory over Fitchburg State – Pope scored a game-high 19 points with a team-best 10 rebounds for a double-double in the Emmanuel win. Pope also dished out a game-high five assists while shooting 7-of-15 from the field to help EC to improve to 5-1 on the year and 5-0 at home.
Josh Zangerle, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., G - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) - In one game the past week, Josh Zangerle set a career high with 26 points, while grabbing 12 rebounds to notch a double-double. Zangerle shot 41.7% from the floor, connecting on 10/24 shots with two three pointers. He went 4/5 at the line. Of his 12 rebounds, seven were offensive and five were defensive.
Donovan Lewis Jr., Norwich (Sr., F - Savannah, Ga.) - Lewis averaged 12.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 24.3 minutes per game, while shooting 56.3% from the floor (18-32) in a 1-2 week for the Cadets. He earned All-Tournament honors in the Hockenbury Classic after totaling 24 points and nine boards against Colby-Sawyer and Springfield.
Jaecee Martin, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Martin set a new program record with an impressive 18 assists as the No. 6 Blue Jays cruised to victory in the their lone game of the week at Dean, 98-67, on Saturday afternoon in their 2021-22 GNAC opener. In 31 minutes of floor time, Martin was shredding the Bulldogs' zone defense with spectacular passes, recording 11 assists in the first half and seven more in second stanza. Martin also added four points (2-5 FG), three rebounds iand committed just one turnover to help improve USJ's best start in program history to 6-0. Martin currently leads the GNAC and is third in the nation in assists per game averaging 8.3 per contest through the team's first six contests.
Jordan Powell, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G/F - Middletown, Conn.) - Powell was perfect from the field, connecting on 9-of-9 field goal attempts for a team-high 18 points, as the No. 6 Blue Jays cruised to victory in the their lone game of the week at Dean, 98-67, Saturday afternoon in their 2021-22 GNAC opener. In just 22 minutes of floor time, Powell didn't miss a single shot and he now comfortably leads the conference and is second in the nation in field-goal percentage, shooting it at a 79.5% clip for the season through the team's first six games. Powell also grabbed a pair of rebounds in the triumph over Dean to help improve USJ's best start in program history to 6-0.
Nicholas Curtis, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Senior, G - Windsor, Maine) - Curtis scored a game-high 25 points with four assists and a pair of rebounds in a hard-fought 85-73 loss to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday. The senior guard was 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the floor, including a 4-for-8 clip from downtown, and went 7-for-10 from the FT line in the conference contest.
