GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 12
SJC senior Ashtyn Abbott averaged a double-double of 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in a perfect 3-0 week for the Monks.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ashtyn Abbott, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, F - Farmingdale, Maine) - Abbott averaged 16.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 blocks while shooting 66.7% (20-30) from the floor, 50% (5-10) from beyond the arc, and 83.3% (5-6) from the charity stripe in a huge 3-0 conference week for the Monks. In a 76-65 victory over Norwich on Saturday, Abbott was perfect from the floor (7-7), downtown (3-3), and the FT line (3-3) with 19 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. He also contributed 11 points and 12 boards at Rivier and went for 20 points and eight rebounds against Dean. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Jamir Harvey, Regis (Mass.) (Fy., F - Robbins, Ill.) - Harvey returned to the starting lineup in a 1-1 week, averaging 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals. On Thursday against Anna Maria, he shot 7-for-9 from the field to finish with 14 points along with six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. In a season-high 35 minutes Saturday against Colby-Sawyer, he notched his second double-double of the season, leading the Pride with 23 points and 10 rebounds along with two steals and two blocks. He shot 9-for-12 from the field, including a perfect 5-for-5 in the second half to help Regis rally from a 19-point halftime deficit to pull into a tie in the final minute of regulation. For the season, he is now fifth in the GNAC in field goal percentage (.552). |
GNAC HONOR ROLL
Terry Dawkins, Albertus Magnus (Gr., F - Bronx, N.Y.) - Dawkins averaged 14.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting an impressive 50% (15-30) from the floor and 68.4% (13-19) from the charity stripe to help guide the Falcons to a 2-1 week. He had 16 points, six rebounds, and an assist in 29 minutes of action against #1 USJ before registering 18 points and eight rebounds in the home win over JWU. Dawkins capped the week with a nine-point performance to go with five rebounds and a steal in a road win over Rivier.
Terrence Harvey Jr., Colby-Sawyer (Sr, G - Atlanta, Ga.) - Harvey Jr. had the most productive week of his career, averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two Charger wins by a combined four points. He also shot a scorching 57.9& (11-19 FG, 4-8 3PT, 3-4 FT) from the floor overall. Before netting a career-high 17 points with six boards, four assists and three steals in a 72-70 win, he double-doubled with 12 points and 11 boards plus five assists in a 65-63 road win at Norwich.
Ricky Martin, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Sicklerville, N.J.) - Martin averaged 18.0 points for the Saints last week, shooting 58.3% (14-24) overall and 57.1% (8-14) from three despite the Saints dropping a pair of GNAC contests last week. In an 81-77 setback against Norwich, the senior had 27 points (11-15 FG, 5-8 3PT) and three steals.
EJ Day, Lasell (Senior, G) - Day averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals as the Lasers put together a 3-0 week. He scored 23, 25 and 20 points, respectively versus Elms, Rivier and Anna Maria, dishing out five assists in each contest.
Kohlby Murray, Norwich (So, G - Fair Haven, Vt.) - Murray's sharpshooter ability was on display this past week, as the sophomore averaged 19.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-2 week. He first tallied 15 points to help the Cadets hand Emmanuel their first GNAC loss of the season in Boston. He followed that up with 18 points and four steals in a thriller against Colby-Sawyer, before pouring in 25 points on a 7-9 clip from beyond the arc at Saint Joseph's of Maine. Murray was a spot-on 50.0% (22-44) from the floor and 64.7% (11-17) from long range.
Jaecee Martin, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Martin became the third player in USJ men's basketball program history to reach the 1,000 career point mark and helped power the top-ranked Blue Jays to another undefeated week, averaging 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in just 24.0 minutes per game over a pair of GNAC contests. The veteran point guard was efficient from the floor, connecting on 13-of-21 (61.9%) attempts from the field, including 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. He was also stellar from the free-throw line, going 9-of-10. The Hartford product opened the week with 17 points, three rebounds, and four assists in 29 minutes in an 88-64 victory at home over intrastate and conference rival Albertus Magnus on Tuesday night. He followed that up with 19 points, including his 1,000th career point at USJ, four rebounds, and four assists in just 19 minutes in a comfortable 87-42 triumph over Elms on Thursday night in West Hartford. The triumph over the Blazers clinched the No. 1 seed in the South Division for the Blue Jays in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.
