JWU Bobby Newcomb Earns GCAA All-America Scholar Award
Johnson & Wales senior Robert Newcomb (Quincy, Mass.) was named a 2009 Golf Coaches Association of America/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar, announced by the GCAA at the annual Division III National Awards dinner recently at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.
Johnson & Wales senior Robert Newcomb (Quincy, Mass.) was
named a 2009 Golf Coaches Association of America/Cleveland Golf
All-American Scholar, announced by the GCAA at the annual Division
III National Awards dinner on Tuesday evening at the Port St. Lucie
Civic Center.
A standout in the classroom and on the golf course, Newcomb was the
2008 GNAC Player of the Year and led team to GNAC Championship and
JWU’s first ever bid to the NCAA Division III Golf
Championship. During his career he has led the team to three
straight GNAC Crowns.
In the classroom, he has maintained a 3.89 g.p.a., is a three-time
member of the GNAC All-Academic team and is a member of the Student
Athlete Advisory Committee. He is one of only 42 NCAA
Division III golfers to be honored with this award.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an
individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in
at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in
70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the
NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division
III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A
recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good
standing at his college or university
