Player Of The Week
Owen McDuffie, Rivier (Sr.)
Senior Owen McDuffie recorded 24 ground balls and went 30-38 (78.9%) in the faceoff circle. McDuffie had six ground balls and went 11-17 (64.7%) at the faceoff circle in the 11-5 win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine and then added a career-high 18 ground balls and went 19 of 21 (90.5%) from the faceoff circle in the 13-6 win over Emmanuel.
Goalkeeper Of The Week
Jake Lydon, Rivier (So.)
Sophomore Jake Lydon recorded 21 saves with a 65.6 save percentage in the 2-0 week for the Raiders. Lydon stopped 13 shots with a 72.2 save percentage in the 11-5 win over SJC and added eight saves in the win over Emmanuel to clinch an undefeated regular season. The sophomore also netted two goals in the win over Saint Joseph's (Maine).
Rookie Of The Week
Julian Vogel, Lasell (Fr.)
Freshman Julian Vogel totaled 14 points in a 2-1 week, scoring three goals apiece in a setback to UMass Boston and then in a GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer, adding four assists in the process. Vogel followed with four against Maine Maritime, inclduing the game-winning goal with three minutes left in the contest in a tight 10-9 win.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Evan Thomas, Colby-Sawyer - Thomas helped the Chargers get their first win in program history this past week over Mitchell where he totaled four goals and four assists for eight points in the 15-6 win. Earlier in the week, Thomas recorded 3 assists against Lasell.
Dominick Ciarelli, Lasell - Ciarelli total 36 saves in a 2-1 week for the Lasers at 58.1%, including 19 in a setback to UMass Boston and 14 in win over Maine Maritime.
Shane Helman, New England College - Helman played a major role in the Pilgrims' two wins this week, including five points against Thomas on Thursday. His six goals was tied for the team lead this week. Helman scooped 12 ground balls and caused a turnover to help the Pilgrims go 2-0 this week.
Evan Zonderman, New England College - Zonderman, while scoring three goals across two games, went 36-39 in faceoffs this week. His 17 ground balls and a caused turnover played a major role in helping the Pilgrims defeat Thomas and Albertus Magnus.
Mason Dils, Norwich - Dils anchored the Norwich defense across two GNAC contests, totaling 29 saves over 120 minutes while posting a .558 save percentage. The junior goalkeeper turned in a standout effort in a narrow 9-8 loss at Emmanuel College, stopping 17 shots and keeping the Cadets within striking distance throughout a defensive battle. He followed with 12 saves in a key 21-14 road win over Dean College, adding three ground balls while helping Norwich secure an important conference victory. Dils finished the week with a 1-1 record and an 11.50 goals-against average against two league opponents.
Drew Fleury, Norwich - Fleury powered Norwich during a 1-1 week in GNAC play, totaling 12 points on eight goals and four assists while adding nine ground balls. The senior attacker opened the week with three points on two goals and an assist in a one-goal road battle at Emmanuel College, then erupted for a career-high nine points in a crucial 21-14 conference victory over Dean College. In the win over the Bulldogs, Fleury piled up six goals and three assists while also collecting eight ground balls, helping Norwich produce one of its top offensive outputs of the season.
Jake Dernier, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Dernier almost singlehandedly kept the Monks in a pair of losses to two of the top teams in the conference last week with a stellar 64.7% save percentage and 22 saves in 90 minutes in goal. The sophomore allowed four goals and posted seven stops in the second half of a setback at the hands of Rivier on Wednesday and turned away a career-high 15 shots in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss at USJ on Saturday.
Nick Wesley, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Wesley dominated defensively for USJ during a perfect 2-0 week, recording a team-high 17 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Wesley also showcased his offensive prowess, notching two assists on the week. Wesley started the week by dishing out two assists while tallying nine ground balls and one caused turnover in a 24-2 win against Mitchell. Rounded out the week by anchoring the defense in a 8-7 win against Saint Joseph's College, recording eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. This season, Wesley leads the GNAC and ranks third in the nation in total caused turnovers (46).
