GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 2
Norwich's Amerle Nemeye had four goals for eight points last week, scoring once in a 2-1 setback against No. 2 Amherst before posting a hat trick against Lasell.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Amerle Nemeye, Norwich (Sr., F - Burlington, Vt.) - Nemeye helped lead the Cadets to a 1-1 week, including a 7-0 victory over Lasell and a hard-fought 2-1 loss to No. 2 nationally-ranked Amherst. Nemeye scored NU's lone goal against Amherst before registering his first collegiate hat trick (all in the first half) of a 7-0 win over Lasell on Saturday to open GNAC play. Nemeye scored the game-winning goal in the Lasell match less than three minutes into the game.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK Freddie Beckmann, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., GK - Franklin, Mass.) - Beckmann kept Anna Maria at bay to allow Regis to come from behind for a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon. Beckmann made four saves, two in each half. His second half saves both came after the Pride had pulled ahead, one in the 82nd minute and the other in the 85th minute. As the final seconds of regulation wound down, Anna Maria sent a long pass towards the net, but Beckmann was able to slide and smother the ball before an AMCAT player had an opportunity for a last-second scoring chance.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Jacob Freitas, Regis (Mass.) (So., M/B - Dracut, Mass.) - Freitas continued to help the Regis offense succeed as the Pride won two matches over the past week. Wednesday, he scored two goals, including the first goal of the match after dribbling the ball through the Lesley defense from midfield before shooting it into the net. With just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation Saturday against Anna Maria, he created the scoring opportunity for the eventual game-winning tally, picking up the assist on the play.

HONOR ROLL
Carlos Lopez, Albertus Magnus (Jr., M - Bridgeport, Conn.) - Lopez helped lead the Falcons to a thrilling 1-0 win over Dean College on Saturday afternoon as the junior midfielder scored in the 27th minute, giving the hosts their second victory of the season.
Alec Erskine, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, M - Coventry, Conn.) - Led Emmanuel to a 2-0 week including an opening win in GNAC play with five points on two goals and one assist. He helped get EC started in their 4-3 win over Suffolk, assisting on the opening score just 6:44 into the action and followed it up with a two-goal showing in the Saints 2-0 GNAC win over Rivier marking the first time since 2015 that Emmanuel opened GNAC play with a "W".
JP Rioux, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., F - Stony Point, N.Y.) - In his lone game of the week, Rioux led the Wildcats to a GNAC Victory over the Colby-Sawyer Chargers on Saturday. Rioux scored the opening goal in the contest to put the WIldcats up 1-0. Rioux added an assist on what ended up being the game winning goal. He added one more goal to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead, the final score.
Diego Roman, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., B - Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) - Roman helped the Pride to two victories over the past week in different ways. Wednesday against Lesley, he anchored the defense that did not allow a goal for the second straight match. Saturday, he scored two goals to allow the Pride to come from behind to defeat Anna Maria. His first goal came on a header off a corner kick with 51 seconds remaining in the first half. His second tally came as he gathered a rebound and sent it into the net with 13 minutes left in regulation.
DeAnte Anderson, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., F - Bloomfield, Conn.) - Anderson scored all five goals in a 5-3 victory at Trinity as part of a 1-1 week.
