BABSON PARK, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team saw its 2024 season come to a close, falling to intrastate foe Wesleyan University (Wesleyan), 2-0, during the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament First Round Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field in Babson Park, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays concluded the year at 14-5-3 overall.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Cardinals dominated possession in the early portion of the first half, forcing freshman goalkeeper Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) to produce an incredible save 12:10 into the match, keeping the game scoreless.
- Wesleyan nearly took the lead again, as Dylan Clack saw his strike rattle off the crossbar 16:42 into the first half.
- The Blue Jays would find some scoring opportunities, but neither team could generate another clear-cut chance, as the game reached the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.
- Wesleyan would grab the lead early in the second half, as Josh LaCorte tapped the ball into an empty net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 edge at the 49:06 mark.
- The Cardinals would double the edge with 22:24 left in the game, as Joshwin Jennings found the ball inside the box, before cutting inside onto his left field and firing a shot past Slayton, increasing the deficit to 2-0.
- USJ would not be able to find an answer to a stout Wesleyan defense, as the Cardinals took home a 2-0 victory.
