Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Report - Week 1

Player of the Week
Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.), Sophomore, INF, Anna Maria College
Miller batted .667 on the week, going 4-6 over two games for the AMCats at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, FLa. The sophomore went 1-2 with a double and RBI against Rensselaer in Anna Maria's season-opener and then 3-4 with a double, RBI and run scored against WPI. Miller was also perfect in the field, converting all five chances for a 1.000 fielding percentage at the hot corner.

Pitcher of the Week
Val Viers (West Warwick, R.I.), Sophomore, RHP, Emmanuel College
In her season debut, Kiers tossed five innings of three hit ball to list Emmanuel College to a 2-1 win over Pitt.-Greensburg in Day 1 action of the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Kiers was extremely efficient, allowing just one walk while recording one strikeout for the win to help the Saints improve to 1-0 to start a new year for the first time since the 2003 season.

Rookie of the Week
Emily Gorecki (Bremerton, Wash.), Freshman, INF, Johnson & Wales University
Over four games, batted .385 collecting five hits and scoring two runs for the Wildcats at the Snowbird Games in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Gorecki went 2-4 with an RBI and run in her collegiate debut vs. King's College (Pa.) and then went 3-7 in a doubleheader against Eastern University later in the week. *Gorecki played in 8 games on the week but statistics are only available from 4 games at the time of this nomination.
