GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 4
Albertus Magnus sophomore Jakara Murray-Leach (22.5 PTS, 7.0 REB) captured her fourth straight GNAC Player of the Week award for the Falcons.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Jakara Murray-Leach, Albertus Magnus (So., G/F - Norwalk, Conn.) - Murray-Leach put together two stellar performances last week in a pair of Albertus wins, as she averaged a team-high 22.5 points to go along with 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. The sophomore guard shot 17-for-36 (47.2%) from the field and 7-for-9 (77.8%) from the FT line. Murray-Leach began her week on Tuesday with 13 points, three rebounds, and two steals over just 19 minutes in the Falcons' dominant 74-36 victory over Fisher. She followed that performance up with a double-double on a season-high 32 points and 11 rebounds to guide AMC to a signature 89-72 win over GNAC powerhouse Emmanuel on Saturday in the two teams' GNAC opener. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Madi Zancan, Regis (Mass.) (Fy., F - Cumberland, R.I) - Zancan helped Regis defeat Elms Saturday in the GNAC opener for both teams. She shot 8-for-13 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line for a season-high 18 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds and collected three blocked shots, also a season high total. Zancan has scored at least eight points in all five Pride games so far this season, averaging 12.0 points per game on 59.5 percent field goal shooting, currently second in the GNAC. |
GNAC HONOR ROLL
Hannah Talon, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, G - Windham, Maine) - Talon
Yannie Chan, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Hong Kong, China) - Chan averaged 23.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over two contests for Emmanuel. The sophomore dropped a game-high 20 points against #3/7 Amherst before scoring a career-high 27 points vs. Albertus Magnus in EC's GNAC opener. The guard had five assists, two steals and two blocks to round out the stat sheet on the week.
Haley Brewster, Norwich (So, G - Virginia Beach, Va.) - Brewster averaged 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 1-1 split for the Cadets at the 2022 Hockenbury Classic, opening up her first game back from Thanksgiving break with an 18-point, 13-rebound effort in a thrilling 67-56 win over Eastern Nazarene. She followed that up with 14 points in a loss to Trinity in the title game of the Hockenbury Classic, logging an 8-11 clip from the charity stripe during the tourney.
Courtney Doherty, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., G - Willimantic, Conn.) - Doherty scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting to lead the Pride to an 11-point victory over Elms Saturday in the GNAC opener for both teams. After Elms pulled to within four points at 45-41 early in the third quarter, Doherty made two layups and hit a three-pointer to extend the Regis lead back to 11 midway through the quarter. She also collected four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the game.
Hannah Muchemore, Rivier (Jr., G - Nashua, N.H.) - Muchemore averaged 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a 1-2 week, highlighted by a 19-point, six-assist effort in a GNAC opening win over Dean.
Jordan Ouellette, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., G/F - Bristol, Conn.) - Averaged 18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Blue Jays. Dropped a career-high 29 points in the victory over Mitchell. Scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead USJ past Anna Maria in its GNAC opener on Saturday.
Hannah Talon, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, G - Windham, Maine) - Talon averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The junior guard scored 18 points with five rebounds and three assists while making 7-of-9 shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, in a convincing win over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday.
