GNAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 1

JWU's Chloe Martinez took home Week 1 Player of the Week honors as the Wildcats went 2-1, including a key victory over Babson.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chloe Martinez, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., M - Dartmouth, Mass.) - Martinez picked up five points in three matches last week, courtesy of a two-goal game in a neutral-site victory over Salve Regina. In the season-opening win against Babson, she fed a pass to Hayley Viebrock to collect her first assist of the season.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Kim Watt, Norwich (Sr., GK - Lindenhurst, N.Y.) - Watt was superb in her first start of the season, stopping 13 of 15 shots for a .867 save percentage as she helped keep reigning GNAC finalist Saint Joseh's of Maine at bay for much of the game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kaelyn Briscoe, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, M/F - Walpole, Mass.) - Briscoe enjoyed a strong start to her collegiate career, netting three goals for Emmanuel over two games. The first year found the back of the net in the Saints season-opener vs. Salve Regina and then scored twice including the game-winner in EC's victory over MCLA over the weekend. The first year attempted three shots on the week and scored on all three.

HONOR ROLL

Abby Goodnow, Elms (Junior, Mid) - Goodnow had two goals, including the game-winner in a 4-0 GNAC win at Rivier as part of a 2-1 opening week for the Blazers.

Hayley Viebrock, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., D - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) - Viebrock opened the scoring on the 2021 season with her first career goal in JWU's 2-1 win over Babson. On Friday night, she picked up three points in a 4-1 win over Salve. She assisted on the opening goal of the game before grabbing her second goal of the season to close out the first half with a 3-0 edge for the Wildcats.

Gabriella Gulino, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., D - Wethersfield, Conn.) - Gulino wasted little time making her presence known in a USJ uniform, scorign the game-winner in a 1-0 victory on the road over Fitchburg State last Wednesday. The tally made her just the fifth freshman in the last 10 seasons to score a goal in her first career game.

Madison Michaud, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (2023, F - Presque Isle, Maine) - Michaud tallied a goal and an assist in the Monks' 2-0 victory at Norwich on Saturday afternoon.

Marita Nothacker, Simmons (Sophomore, GK - Philadelphia, Pa.) - Over the course of two games to begin the season, sophomore goalkeeper Marita Nothacker has been outstanding in net for the Sharks. Against two tough opponents, Wellesley and Lesley, she combined to registered 18 saves - nine in each match.
