WOMEN'S SOCCER: Emmanuel Clinches Top Seed In Regular Season Finale Victory
WINTHROP, Mass. - Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion Emmanuel collected the regular-season title and earned the right to be the top seed in this year's postseason tournament. The Saints closed out conference play in a 4-0 shutout victory at home against Lasell University, earning 35 points in GNAC play (11-0-2). They will look to ride a six-game winning streak into the tournament with aspirations of going back-to-back. They match-up with no. 8 seed Norwich, who are eager to upset the Saints as the Cadets (18 points; 5-5-3) tied with Emmanuel 1-1 earlier this season.
At the two-seed is a Rivier squad, who closed out regular season play tonight with a narrow 1-0 road victory over Simmons. The Raiders are riding a seven-game win streak and look to dethrone the defending champions this postseason as they crept up right behind them, finishing with 34 points in conference play (11-1-1). They will face no. 7 seed University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) as the Blue Jays (19 points; 6-6-1) closed out their regular season with a dominant 5-1 win over Elms tonight. USJ looks to shake up the bracket as they look to avenge a 2-1 loss earlier in the season.
At the three seed is Lasell, who closed out their regular season with a 10-2-1 conference record for 31 points as they match-up with no. 6 Saint Joseph's (Maine) as the Monks finished with 22 points (7-5-1) in GNAC play. SJC will look to pull off an upset after a narrow 1-0 loss earlier this season to the Lasers.
The final match-up will be #4 Albertus Magnus (30 points; 9-1-3 GNAC) and #5 Regis (25 points; 8-4-1 GNAC) as the two look to have another thrilling match-up as the Falcons are riding on a three-game win streak as well as the Pride, who are on a seven-game win streak.
