Husson University to Add Men's Swimming for 2013-14

BANGOR, Maine – Husson Athletics is excited to announce the addition of men's swimming and diving for the 2013-2014 academic year. Husson University Director of Athletics Bob Reasso remarked, "We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to add men's swimming and diving as our eighteenth varsity sport. This is the fifth sport we've added since 2010, and it really comes down to President Clark buying into and supporting our vision for the athletic department. Bangor, the surrounding area, and the state of Maine have a great swimming community, and we are honored to offer our incoming student-athletes and current students a chance to compete in this sport."

Husson University President Robert Clark commented on the decision, "At Husson we are committed to providing our students an opportunity to compete at the intercollegiate NCAA Division III level in a wide variety of sports. Thus, we are very pleased to expand our 2013-2014 offerings to include men's swimming. This additional opportunity recognizes that the sport has a strong competitive base in Maine high schools.  It also reflects our understanding of the importance of the role of collegiate athletics in enriching the students' collegiate experience.  The men's swim and dive team complements our strong existing athletic programs." 

Head women's swimming and diving coach and Director of Aquatics Bruce Babin has been selected to serve as Husson's first men's swimming and diving coach. Reasso remarked, "We already have a top-notch facility and coach to lead the program, and I'm sure it will flourish under Butch's leadership."

Coach Babin added, "I'm very excited to be adding men's swimming and diving—we already have large contingent of existing students and former Maine high school swimmers who are very interested, and I'm looking forward to start talking to swimmers and divers about attending Husson and becoming part of this team. It is great that Husson will be able to set itself apart as one of a select few collegiate institutions in New England to offer men's swimming at the NCAA Division III level."
