GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 9

FOR THE WEEK OF JAN. 17 - 23

	MEN'S ATHLETE / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Ben Stark, Norwich (So., Montverde, Fla.) - In Saturday's home dual meet against Plymouth State, Stark won the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:49.23), the men's 100-yard butterfly (55.78) and the men's 200-yard IM (2:01.94). He set a new personal-best in the 200-IM as well as the Cadet men topped the Panthers 417.6-262.8.
	WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Brielle Bergeron, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Easthampton, Mass.) - Bergeron had herself a Senior Night to remember, going out in style in her final meet inside the Bruyette Natatorium by breaking both of USJ's 1-meter diving records in a dual meet versus Eastern Connecticut. Bergeron shattered the 1-meter 6-dive school record with a score of 242.40 and followed that up by demolishing the 1-meter 11-dive record with a score of 414.40. Both records were previously held by standout USJ diver Andrea LeClair since the 2000-01 season.
	WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Cashman Murphy, Regis (Jr., Westwood, Mass.) - In her first season of collegiate competition, Cashman Murphy produced her best diving performance of the year Saturday against Elms. She set a school and pool record in the six-dive event of one meter diving with a score of 254.95, breaking the previous record by 7/10ths of a point. She also posted a personal-best score of 174.30 in the five-dive event. Murphy improved her five-dive score by over 28 points and her six-dive total by 21.55 points.

HONOR ROLL

Kyleigh Boatwright, Regis Sr., Roseville, Calif.) - Boatwright notched the top time in three individual events Saturday against Elms, starting with a mark of 30.68 seconds in the 50 backstroke. She followed that with a 100 backstroke time of 1:05.38 and a season-best time of 1:05.72 in the 100 individual medley. Before the meet, Boatwright was recognized as part of the Senior Day presentation.

Brendan Pike, Regis (Sr., Weymouth, Mass.) - In the final home meet of his collegiate career, Brendan Pike once again led the Pride against Elms Saturday. He completed the 1650 freestyle in 17:33.45, almost three full seconds faster than the previous Regis Pool record set two years ago. Pike also finished the 50 freestyle in 23.67 seconds, the quickest time for the Pride this season by over two seconds, as well as the 100 individual medley in 1:00.63.

Jacob Wyse, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Broad Brook, Conn.) - Wyse registered first-place finishes in all three of his individual events to lead the way for the Blue Jays on Senior Night inside the Bruyette Natatorium on Friday evening in a dual meet versus intrastate rival Eastern Connecticut. In his final home meet of his career, Wyse was impressive logging first-place swims in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.36), 100-yard backstroke (59.25), and 200-yard IM (2:10.04). Wyse was the leading scorer for the Blue Jays on the night, individually accounting for 27 of USJ's 129 points in the dual meet.
