STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College senior libero Erica Russi (Debary, Fla.) broke the program's all-time digs record in a 3-0 victory over University of Maine-Presque Isle on Monday October 14.
Russi, a second-year team captain, entered the match versus the Owls with 1,224 digs over three-plus seasons, needed just five to surpass her former teammate, Sarah Hawkes '13, who tallied 1,229 digs during her outstanding career as a four-year starter.
With 17 digs against UMPI, Russi raced past Hawkes to claim the record and currently has 1,257 over 111 matches and 346 sets during her career.
Along with the digs record, Russi also currently ranks as the Monks' all-time leader in digs per set (3.63) and is sixth in career service aces (164). Only five players have appeared in more matches and just seven have played in more total sets during their Saint Joseph's volleyball career.
Russi also set the Monks' single-season digs (451) and digs per set (4.5) records last fall and posted the 10th-most aces (68) in team history as a sophomore.
