Johnson & Wales Tabs Nancy Somera As Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Johnson & Wales University has named Nancy Somera as the head women’s volleyball coach, announced by Associate Dean of Athletics Mary Graf.

PROVIDENCE, R.I – Johnson & Wales University has named Nancy Somera as the head women’s volleyball coach, as announced by Associate Dean of Athletics Mary Graf on Tuesday.
“We are extremely excited to have such a talented and experienced head coach as Nancy,” said Graf. “She has proven success at the highest levels of women’s college volleyball and we are truly lucky to have such a quality coach to lead our program.”
“I'm excited to recapture the tradition of excellence that previously existed in the JWU volleyball program,” says Somera. “The continued commitment and investment from the university to the success of our student-athletes is what drew me to the position. University and department-wide support and leadership is in place to quickly position JWU Volleyball for success.”
Somera comes to Johnson & Wales after spending the last season as the assistant coach at Roger Williams University, helping guide the team to the best record in school history and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship.
An accomplished coach at the NCAA Division I level, Somera served as the head coach at the University of South Carolina and Oregon State. During her tenure as both an assistant and head coach, she was instrumental in the development of 11 All-Americans and 21 All-Conference selections.
A standout at the University of Southern California, Somera graduated in 1989 and was named to the school’s All-Decade team. A four-year starter she earned All-Pac-10 accolades in 1987 and 1988 and captained the Trojans for three seasons.
