Nashua, N.H. - Senior Emily O'Reilly of the Rivier women's volleyball team achieved a milestone this past weekend that no other student-athlete has reaching in Raiders program history.
During the third set of last Saturday's first match against Rhode Island College, O'Reilly reached the 4,000-assist mark – making her the only female in Rivier history to join the club. Currently only Zach Hansen '10 and Nhut Chau '06 recorded more assists. Hansen has the all-time record with 5,021 and Chau is right behind with 4,990. She also bypassed Laura Ciummo '09 who held the Women's record of 3,936 assists.
A native of San Francisco, California, O'Reilly needed just 655 assists in her senior season to reach the milestone. She previously recorded assists totals of 1,043, 1,171 and 1,131 in her first three seasons, so it was only a matter of when she would pass the legendary mark in 2015.
"Emily is a gifted player and is the heart of our offense – we are fortunate to have her," said 17th-year head coach Craig Kolek on O'Reilly. "She has worked hard over the last four years to earn each and every one of those 4,000 assists and has made herself into the best setter to ever play for Rivier Women's Volleyball. I'm really happy for her and extremely proud to be her coach."
She currently has 4,063 assists in her career with nine regular season games left to play before the GNAC Tournament and hopefully another shot at the NCAA Tournament.
