GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 9
Bryan Davis took home weekly accolades after averaging 17.0 points and 16.0 rebounds while shooting a stellar 63.6% overall.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Bryan Davis, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., G - Miramar, Fla.) - In a 1-1 GNAC week, Davis averaged 17.0 points per game and 16.0 rebounds per game while playing 39 minutes in both games. Davis had his first double-double against Dean, scoring 18 points and grabbing 19 rebounds, while adding two assists and one steal. Against Emmanuel, Davis had 16 points and 13 rebounds. On the week, the senior forward connected on 63.6% of his attempts from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Donte Pope, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, G - Middletown, Conn.) - Pope averaged 17.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in a key 2-0 week for the Saints in GNAC play. He opened with a double-double of 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in a 75-71 road victory over Norwich before scoring a team-high 17 points in EC's 76-74 victory over JWU.

HONOR ROLL
Tyreek Perkins, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Perkins was outstanding for the Falcons over their two wins this week, as he led the team with 16.5 points and 5.5 assists per game in 28.5 minutes. The senior guard shot 46.4 percent (13-for-28) from the floor, while averaging 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. He began his stellar week with 20 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in Albertus' convincing 98-78 triumph over Elms on Tuesday. Perkins followed that up with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 27 minutes in the Falcons' blowout 85-55 win over Norwich on Sunday.
Gabe Armstead, Anna Maria (So., F - Dallas, Ga.) - Armstead scored 20 points on 54.5 percent shooting with six rebounds and a dominating four blocks in Anna Maria's 84-75 win at Saint Joseph's this past week in GNAC action. In just his first collegiate season, Armstead is currently leading the conference in blocks per game and total blocks.
Ralph Grasso, Jr., Anna Maria (Sr., G - Marlborough, Mass.) - Grasso Jr. continued to lead the AMCATS' scoring attack, with 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals during Anna Maria's 84-75 win at Saint Joseph's of Maine.
Kevin Vanderhorst, Lasell (Graduate, Forward - Lawrence, Mass.) - Vanderhorst had 17 points and set a program-record with 27 rebounds in a win over Colby-Sawyer Saturday, averaging 11.0 points and 16.5 boards for the week.
Russell Rau, Regis (Mass.) (Fy., F - Fitchburg, Mass.) - Rau was Regis's top player during its road game at Elms Saturday. He notched his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds, tying his season high in rebounding. Rau was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, becoming the third player in program history to make at least 10 free throw attempts without a miss. Rau has now made 21 straight free throw attempts without a miss, dating back to the Framingham State game Nov. 23, to move into second place in the league in free throw percentage at 87.1 percent.
Jordan Powell, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G/F - Middletown, Conn.) - Powell helped power No. 8 nationally-ranked USJ to a big 3-0 GNAC week, as the Blue Jays are now the only remaining undefeated team in Division III at 13-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play. Over the three-game span, Powell averaged 16.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in 27.0 minutes per game. The 6-6 Middletown product shot an incredible 83.3% (20-24) from the floor on the week and also converted on 80.0% (8-10) of his attempts from the free-throw line. With the 83.3% conversion rate from the field, Powell now leads the nation in field-goal percentage at 75.5% (74-98) on the season. Powell opened the week with 11 points (4-7 FG) and five rebounds on Tuesday in a 90-56 win at home over Lasell. He followed that up with 20 points and two boards in an 84-72 triumph on the road at Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday before ending the week with his third double-double of the year with 17 points and 13 caroms in an 84-54 triumph at Rivier on Saturday.
Nicholas Curtis, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (2022, G - Windham, Maine) - Curtis averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 55.3% (21-38) from the field, 52.0% (13-25) from three-point range, and 66.7% (8-12) from the free-throw line in three conference games last week. He was nearly unstoppable in an 82-73 triumph over Dean College on Saturday as he went 11-for-16 from the floor - including a 6-for-10 effort from downtown - with 29 points in the GNAC victory.
