GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 2
USJ's Jacob Wyse and Regis' Kyleigh Boatwright took home GNAC honors in Week 2.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jacob Wyse, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Broad Brook, Conn.) - Wyse defended his title and won the Blue Jay Pentathlon for the third consecutive season this past Friday night in an annual meet hosted by the Blue Jays inside Bruyette Natatorium. Wyse posted the lowest combined time (5:03.78) amongst all of the competitors who competed in the five 100-yard events on the evening to earn the victory. In route to the victory he recorded four first-place swims winning the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.77), 100 Backstroke (1:00.38), 100 Freestyle (53.89), and 100 IM (1:02.99). |

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Kyleigh Boatwright, Regis (Sr., Roseville, Calif.) - Boatwright once again led the Regis women's swimming and diving team during Saturday's double dual meet against Eastern Connecticut State and Stonehill. She defeated the ECSU swimmers in the 50 backstroke with a time of 30.26 seconds. After finishing third overall in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.18, she again finished ahead of ECSU competitors in the 100 individual medley in 1:07.36. She also anchored the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 free split of 26.99 seconds. |

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Sam Madriz, Regis (So., Union, N.J.) - Madriz enjoyed another solid overall performance during Saturday's dual meet at Eastern Connecticut State. He finished second in the 100 butterfly in 59.57 seconds and in the 50 butterfly in 26.57 seconds, cutting 0.44 seconds off his previous collegiate best mark set two weeks ago. |

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Ella Harmon, Simmons (Fr., Keller, Texas) - Harmon helped the Sharks open the 2021-22 season with a dual meet victory over Westfield State University. Harmon posted a pair of first place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard butterfly. In the 50 fly, Harmon touched the wall with a time of 29.15 - .42 seconds ahead of Westfield's Katherin Ferri, while in the 100 fly Harmon beat out Ferri by a second with a time of 1:05.08. |
GNAC WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Ana Lucia Gutierrez-Gomez, Albertus Magnus (So., Hermosillo, Mexico, State) - Gutierrez-Gomez started the 2021-22 season with an overall first-place finish at the USJ Pentathlon on Friday afternoon. She placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke, eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke, fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, first in the 100-yard freestyle, and seventh in the 100-yard individual medley. Gutierrez-Gomez also claimed three top-five finishes in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle.
Brendan Pike, Regis (Sr., Weymouth, Mass.) - Pike won three individual events during Regis' dual meet at Eastern Connecticut State Saturday. He finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:18.79 and in the 50 breaststroke by 2/10ths of a second in 30.08 seconds. In the 500 freestyle, the race was virtually tied before Pike posted a split of 30.15 seconds in the final 50 yards to win with a total time of 5:20.79, another close victory by just 3/10ths of a second.
Shelby Cios, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Rocky Hill, Conn.) - Cios was the highest finisher for the Blue Jays this past Friday evening as USJ hosted the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon inside Bruyette Natatorium. Cios registered a third-place overall finish amongst all the competitors who contested in the five 100-yard events on the evening with a combined time of 6:19.59. Cios logged podium swims in both the 100 Breaststroke (1:18.62) and 100 IM (1:13.29) en route to earning the third-place individual finish in the Pentathlon.
Eva Piernas, Simmons (Jr., Hopkinton, N.H.) - Piernas helped the Sharks open the 2021-22 season with a dual-meet victory over Westfield State University, Saturday afternoon. Piernas placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 11:54.82, while finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:44.23
