GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 5
Norwich swimmers Ben Stark and Nikky Ansley continued to collect weekly honors with another pair of strong performances.

MEN'S ATHLETE / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Ben Stark, Norwich (So., Montverde, Fla.) - At Saturday's double dual meet against Babson and host Regis, Stark won the men's 200-yard freestyle event in 1:49.30. Stark also claimed third in the men's 100-yard butterfly in 54.19. and won the men's 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.92. He swam the anchor leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:20.73). His efforts helped the Cadets earn a split with a win over Regis and a loss to Babson. |

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nikky Ansley, Norwich (Jr., Owens Cross Roads, Ala.) - At Saturday's double dual meet against Babson and host Regis, Ansley won the women's 50-yard freestyle in 25.72 seconds. Ansley also won the women's 50-yard butterfly in 27.60, setting a new pool record in the process. She placed second in the women's 100-yard freestyle in 56.35. |

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Katie Durrua, Univ. of New England (So., Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) - At Simmons, Durrua registered the lone victory for UNE, clocking a 1:04.89 in the 100 butterfly to narrowly best Simmons' Ella Harmon in the tightest swim of the day (+0.19). She was also second to Ella Piernas in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:46.18 (-12.06). |
GNAC WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Ana Lucia Gutierrez-Gomez, Albertus Magnus (So., Hermosillo, Mexico) - On Friday's road match against Colby-Sawyer College and USJ (CT), Gutierrez-Gomez won the 200-yard fly (2:36.26), 200-yard backstroke (2:33.73), and the 50-yard fly (27.82). She also swam in the 200-yard medley relay and helped the quartet place second behind a time of 2:12.51.
Kelsey Brown, Colby-Sawyer (Sr., Douglas, Mass.) - Mass.Brown currently holds many swim records at Colby-Sawyer and continues to impress as she won all three of her individual events on Friday night against two GNAC opponents, in which the Chargers defeated. Brown propelled her team to victory during the 800 FR relay to secure the overall wins.
Julia Burke, Regis (Sr., Barrington, N.H.) - Burke won two events as Regis defeated Norwich and battled with Babson in a double dual meet Saturday. She finished first in both the 50 breaststroke in 33.36 seconds and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.56, both season-best marks. Burke also posted a season-best time of 1:10.23 in the 100 individual medley to help the Pride pull away from the Cadets.
Shelby Cios, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Rocky Hill, Conn.) - Cios finished top-two in all three of her individual events she swam in, including victories in the 50-Yard Breaststroke and 200-Yard Breaststroke, and also helped lead USJ's 200-Yard Medley Relay team to a podium finish this past Friday night GNAC counterpart Colby-Sawyer with Albertus Magnus inside Knight Natatorium. Cios touched the wall first in the 50 Breaststroke with a final time of 35.16 and also won in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:52.66. In her other individual swim of the night she placed runner-up in the 100 IM, clocking in at 1:10.53. She swam as the third swimmer (butterfly) for USJ's 200 Medley Relay team and posted a 30.68 split time, as the Blue Jays registered a podium finish (third) in the event with a combined time of 2:22.23.
Jacob Wyse, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., Broad Brook, Conn.) - Wyse won all three individual events he swam in, breaking the school record in the 50-Yard Butterfly, and also helped lead USJ's 800-Yard Freestyle Relay team to victory and a new school-record time this past Friday night at GNAC counterpart Colby-Sawyer inside Knight Natatorium. Wyse opened the meet touching the wall first in the 400-Yard IM with a blistering time of 4:45.49. He followed that up with a first-place swim in the 200 Backstroke (2:14.51) before placing first and setting a new school record in the 50 Butterfly clocking in at 25.21. He also swam as the anchor swimmer for USJ's 800 Freestyle Relay team and posted a 2:01.77 split time, as the Blue Jays combined to post a new school-record time of 8:26.48 in the event.
Meg Driscoll, Simmons (Jr., Haverhill, Mass.) - Driscoll won three events in Simmons' dual-meet victory over University of New England, Saturday afternoon. Driscoll posted personal-best times in the 50-yard breast (34.52) and the 100-yard IM (1:07.06) as well as a season-best time in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:13.92.
