GNAC Women's Tennis Report: Week 4
Colby-Sawyer's Yashu Yang and JWU's Emily Hill have repeated as the GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Yashu Yang, Colby-Sawyer (Jr - Kunming City, China) Yang won all three of her singles matches at the top spot dropping a total of just five games. She picked up wins against Regis, Eastern Nazarene and Springfield. Yang and teammate Alexa Conlin also won all three of their dual match doubles contests. The duo earned an 8-2 win over Eastern Nazarene, an 8-1 victory over Regis and ended the week with an 8-7 (7-5) triumph over Springfield. Yang and Conlin also competed at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Grass Court Doubles Tournament hosted by Salve Regina. The tandem won their first match over USJ 8-2, but then suffered their first loss of the season with an 8-4 defeat to Division-I Holy Cross. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK First-year Emily Hill continues her dominance on the courts for Johnson & Wales with a 3-1 week (1-1 singles, 2-0 doubles) to help the Wildcats remain perfect with a 7-0 overall record, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. Early in the week, Hill picked up a pair of victories against conference foe Simmons defeating Sarah Mariski in second singles (6-1, 6-2) after teaming with Kourtney Moore to earn an 8-2 win in second doubles. The duo of Hill and Moore continued its dominance grabbing its fifth victory as doubles partners with an 8-5 win against against Eastern Nazarene to sweep doubles and close out the 2-0 week for the Wildcats. |
WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL
Emily Ruttkowski, Eastern Nazarene (Jr. - Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) - Emily Ruttkowski posted a 4-2 combined record on the week as Eastern Nazarene went 1-2 with a 1-1 mark in conference play. Ruttkowski notched three singles victories at the No. 2 singles position on the week.
Kourtney Moore, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So. - Roswell, Ga.) - Moore had a big week, posting a 4-0 overall record (2-0 singles, 2-0 doubles) against conference foes Simmons University and Eastern Nazarene College to help Johnson & Wales remain perfect at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Against the Sharks, Moore edged out Leah Bonis in a two-set tie-break in third singles (6-1, 7-6 (7-3)) after pairing with first-year Emily Hill to take second doubles, 8-2. Moore closed out the week with another outstanding performance against the Lions In second doubles, Moore and Hill battled the Lions to an 8-5 victory to sweep doubles, 3-0, before defeating Mayda Hubel in two sets in thrd singles (6-2, 6-3) and
Lauren Mogelnicki, Regis (Mass.) (So. - Wethersfield, Conn.) - Lauren Mogelnicki enjoyed a perfect week as Regis went 2-1 in three GNAC contests. In a close match against Eastern Nazarene, she earned victories in both singles and doubles, including a straight-set win in singles thanks to a second-set tiebreaker victory. After winning at #3 doubles (8-1) and #4 singles (6-0, 6-2) against Suffolk, she was moved up against Colby-Sawyer, first joining with Kaitlyn Colby to win at second doubles (8-4). She then played #3 singles and earned her first career victory at that position, defeating Amira Eid in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Mogelnicki is 5-0 in both singles and doubles so far this season.
Domonique Carnot, Saint Joseph (CT) (Senior - Meriden, Conn.) - Carnot was a perfect 4-0 on the week, as the Blue Jays picked up three straight victories, including two over GNAC opponents (Albertus Magnus, Suffolk). Her two doubles wins were convincing enough (8-1, 8-2), with opponents only winning three games. She also won all four sets she played in singles competition (6-4, 6-0/6-3, 6-0). Carnot did not lose a single game in second sets all week. USJ has not won three straight matches since 2015 when it won six straight. Carnot is second on the Blue Jays with a 5-1 singles and doubles record, good for 10-2 overall.
Emily Kerr, Saint Joseph (CT) (Freshman - Portland, Conn.) - Kerr was immaculate all week, going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles for a perfect 6-0. Kerr did not lose a single set on the week, as USJ won all three of its matches, including against two GNAC opponents (Albertus Magnus, Suffolk). The Blue Jays moved from seventh to fourth in the GNAC standings, and Kerr is now a team-best 11-1 on the season (6-1 singles, 5-0 doubles).
