The GNAC Weekly Honors for the week ending on March 23, 2009 have been announced. Sports included in this weeks honors are baseball, softball, men's tennis, women's lacrosse, and men's volleyball.

BASEBALL
Player of the Week
Bobby Barrett Suffolk
Milton, MA
JR
Bobby Barrett led Suffolk with 18 RBI as Suffolk finished their
spring trip with a 7-3 record. Barrett was 4-5 with 6 RBI in
Sunday's win over Hamilton and also had a 4-4 game on Thursday
including a 3-run home run and a 2-run double.
Rookie of the Week
Matt Yaeger Johnson &
Wales Glendale, Ariz. SO
Yaeger has made six appearances out of the bullpen for the
Wildcats, posting a 1-1 record with one save and a 0.84 ERA.
In 10.2 innings, he has tallied 13 strikeouts with only one
walk.
Pitcher of the Week
Tim Doyle Suffolk
Milton, MA
SR
Tim Doyle went 2-0 on the week defeating Ripon College (WI) and
Hamilton College (NY). Doyle went 8 innings to lead the Rams to a
4-1 victory over Ripon on Tuesday, and picked up the win Sunday
allowing 1 run over 6 innings of work against Hamilton.
SOFTBALL
Player of the Week
Kirsten Griffiths Johnson & Wales
North Haven, Conn SR
Griffiths leads the team with a .346 batting average while scoring
five runs and a team-best six RBI on the season. She has a
.438 on base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage for the
year. She has also been flawless in the field, posting a
1.000 fielding percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Jackie Saluti Lasell
Braintree,
Mass. FR
Rookie infielder Saluti played outstanding for the Lasers in ten
games over the course of the week. Saluti had 11 RBI's, 9 hits,
scoring three runs. She was a major contributor in all ten
contests for Lasell.
Pitcher of the Week
Jackie Loseff Lasell
Point Pleasant, NJ
JR
Loseff won three games for the Lasers over the course of the week,
pitching 28 innings. Loseff struck out 22, and finished the
week with a 2.5 era. Loseff also made one run and had five assists
in the field for the Lasers.
MEN'S TENNIS
Player of the Week
Garrett Freeman Suffolk
Beacon, NY
SR
Garrett Freeman was victorious 6-1, 6-0 in the 5 singles position
for Suffolk and partnered with Diego Alvarado in the 1 doubles
position for a 8-5 win.
Rookie of the Week
Christopher Staley Suffolk London, England FR
Christopher Staley was victorious 6-1, 6-4 in the 2 singles
position for Suffolk and partnered with Jared Orkin in the 2
doubles position for a 8-5 victory.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Player of the Week
Caitlyn Murphy Lasell
Katonah, NY
SR
Murphy was the leader in goals and points for Lasell this week,
leading the Lasers to a 3-0 week, including picking up their first
GNAC win. Murphy had seven goals against Anna Maria, 3
against Daniel Webster, and five goals and one assist against
Simmons.
Rookie of the Week
Meredith Hessler Lasell
Middletown,
RI FR
Hessler had a tremendous week for Lasell in the midfield. She
scored seven goals and made four assists while also picking up 15
ground balls, causing five turnovers, and controlling the draw 12
times.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Kristin Coderre Lasell
Monson, Mass.
SO
Coderre led Lasell to a 3-0 week in net making 20 saves in the
three contests. Coderre had 16 saves against conference
opponent Simmons College in the Lasers third consecutive victory
this week.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Player of the Week
Michael Townsend
Emmanuel Beaverdam, Va.
JR
This week, junior captain Michael Townsend set an Emmanuel program
record for kills in a single season with 392 and also eclipsed the
1,000-
kill plateau. The outside hitter led the Saints to a 2-2
week, averaging 4.25 kills, 2.25 digs, and 0.81 aces per set.
He is just the 3rd player in
program history to reach 1,000 kills.
Rookie of the Week
Petar Yanakiev Johnson &
Wales Varna, Bulguria FR
Yanakiev averaged 3.3 kills and 1.2 digs per game for the Wildcats
during the week. In the loss against Rivier, tallied 12 kills
with a .231 hitting percentage.
