The GNAC Weekly Honors for the week ending on March 30, 2009 are now available. Sports included in this weeks selections include baseball, softball, men's tennis, women's lacrosse, and men's volleyball.

BASEBALL
Player of the Week
Keith Carter Suffolk
Newburyport, MA SR
Senior Keith Carter hit .563 on the week. Carter was 3-4 and
scored 3 times in Thursday's 6-2 win over Bridgewater St. Carter
was also 5-5 and scored 6 times, knocking in 4 runs with 2 doubles
and a triple in a game 1 victory over Rivier on Saturday.
Rookie of the Week
Daniel Achorn Saint Joseph's (ME) Bow,
NH FR
Achorn batted .467 (7-15) with four runs, five RBI's and two
doubles in a 3-1 weekend for the Monks. In a twin bill with JWU on
March 29th, the freshman shortstop was 4-8 with four runs scored
and a pair of RBI's and made a handful of exceptional defensive
plays.
Pitcher of the Week
Reid Jackson Suffolk Burlington,
MA SR
Senior Reid Jackson threw a complete game 6 hitter to lead the
Rams to a 2-1 victory over Babson College on Tuesday. Jackson
cruised in the later innings only allowing two hits in his final 7
innings of work to pick up his second win on the year.
SOFTBALL
Player of the Week
Jess Ferreira Suffolk Cambridge,
MA SR
Jess Ferreira went 7 for 11 on the weekend with four extra base
hits, driving in seven and scoring five times as Suffolk swept both
double headers.
Rookie of the Week
Karina Bolster Suffolk Carlisle,
PA FR
Karina Bolster was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI in Suffolk's game
one victory of Albertus Magnus. Bolster reached base safely in all
six plate appearances in the two games. Karina was also 2-3 with 2
runs scored in Suffolk's game one victory over Johnson &
Wales.
Pitcher of the Week
Kelsey Tuthill Emerson Middlefield,
CT FR
Tuthill had a perfect 3-0 record and did not surrender a run in
four starts. She left the first game against Emmanuel with a
6-0 lead but did not pitch long enough to qualify for the win
inorder that she could start the second game. She had a
strike oput to walk ration of nearly 8:1.
MEN'S TENNIS
Player of the Week
Devin Kitterick Johnson & Wales
Bridgewater, MA JR
Kitterick was perfect this week at No. 4 singles, posting a 2-0
record. Also posted a 1-1 record in doubles play for the
Wildcats to open the season.
Rookie of the Week
Christopher Staley Suffolk London, England FR
Freshman Christopher Staley was 2-0 on the week for Suffolk.
Staley picked up his second victory of the year in the 2 position
for the Rams, and was victorious in doubles play as well in a GNAC
match this week against Emerson College.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Player of the Week
Caitlyn Murphy Lasell
Katonah, NY
SR
Murphy scored five goals and added and assists early in the week
against Emerson for six points, then put in four goals and tallied
one assist against St. Joseph's (CT) and adding two ground balls in
a 1-1 week for the Lasers.
Rookie of the Week
Amy Gervis Emerson Randolph,
NJ FR
Gervis rallied the Lions from a three goal deficit in the last 17
minutes and scored five goals
including the game winner against Lasell, then had three goals and
assisted on the
game winner vs. St. Joseph's.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Kristin Coderre Lasell
Monson, MA
SO
In a 1-1 week for Lasell, Coderre made 21 saves, including 16
against Emerson College.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Player of the Week
Scott Wright Rivier Salem, NH
SR
Scott Wright, the GNAC Tournament MVP, had a great overall week as
the Raiders went 4-0 and kept their winning streak going.
Scott had 12 kills and hit .625 against Johnson and Wales then
added 7 more kills (.357) along with 5 blocks in the Championship
game against Emmanuel
College. Earlier in the week, in a thrilling 5 set win over
Endicott College, Scott took over the match as he recorded 7
blocks, 18 kills and 4 aces, including 3 aces in game 5 to give the
Raiders a comfartable cushion to pick up the win.
Rookie of the Week
Drew Corwin Rivier Sudbury, MA FR
Drew had a great week, contributing both on offense and defense. Drew picked up 11 digs in the 5 set victory against Endicott College along with 5 blocks. He then hit .500 with 3 kills on 6 swings with 0 errors and 4 blocks in the GNAC Tournament finals against Emmanuel College to help Rivier to a 3-0 victory and their secong straight GNAC title.
