GNAC Weekly Honors for April 13, 2009
The GNAC Weekly Honors have been announced for the week ending on April 13, 2009. Included in this weeks honors are baseball, women's lacrosse, softball, and men's tennis.
BASEBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pete Karl Emerson Wallingford, CT JR
The GNAC's leading hitter (.521), Karl powered Emerson (1.714 slugging %, .800 OBP) to two wins to keep the Lions above the .500 mark. In addition to his hitting, Karl also fielded 10 chances without an error and pitched a nine-inning complete game win.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Joe Coppola Johnson & Wales Ridgewood, NJ FR
In two games for the Wildcats, he hit .600 and scored a run to help the team to a 1-1 week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Pat Moran Saint Joseph's (Me.) Winterport, ME JR
Moran tossed 8 1/3 innings for the week, allowing two runs and five hits with 14 strikeouts and no walks. The junior righty improved to 5-0 with a victory over Norwich 4/11 and collected his first save of the season in a win over Daniel Webster 4/9. Also hit a pair of home runs with eight RBI's during the week
SOFTBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Leverone Saint Joseph's (Me.) Hampton, NH SO
Leverone hit .538 (14-26) with seven runs and 13 RBI's in a 4-4 week for the Lady Monks. She was 7-8 with three RBI's in a twin bill with Norwich 4/10 and 4-6 with four RBI's in a doubleheader against Suffolk 4/11. With two home runs during the week, the first year player tied the program record (6) for long balls in a single season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Erica Belliveau Mount Ida Tewksbury, MA FR
Freshman catcher Erica Belliveau (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) has continued to prove she is a valuable asset to the Mount Ida College women's softball program with another big week featuring two homeruns and nine RBI's in eight games. She has spen every inning this season behind the dish as well.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jackie Martinez Pine Manor Albuquerque, NM SO
The owner of a 24 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings streak, Martinez was instrumental in the Gators climb to the top of the GNAC standings last week, authoring a pair of shutouts against Albertus Magnus and Simmons. Martinez retired 20 consecutive batters in an eight-inning, two-hit shutout of the Sharks Friday night, striking out a career-high 13 and walking none.
MEN'S TENNIS
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allesandro Bellino Emerson Brisbane, Australia SO
Bellino returned from a wrist injury to help lead Emerson over Norwich by dealing Matt Hooper his first singles loss ever in intercollegiate competition by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 12-10. He also teamed with Brant Buckley to take an 8-2 doubles point.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brant Buckley Emerson Chester Springs, PA SR
Buckley won at both first and second singles, and teamed with two different partners to take two victories at first doubles as Emerson continued unbeaten in GNAC play.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maeghan Ross
Emerson Wrentham,
MA SO
Ross scored 10 goals on only 16 shots (.625%) including both game
wining goals in a 2-0 week for the Lions. One of Ross' goals
was in a short-handed situation. Emerson has not lost since
returning from the Spring Break Trip to Florida (seven consecutive
wins), and defeated Worcester State for the first time ever.

Giatrelis scored twice against Pine Manor College to help the
Lasers to a 13-6 win over the Gators
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Kristin Coderre
Lasell Monson,
Mass. SO
Coderre made 10 saves in goal this week against Pine Manor College,
leading Lasell to their third conference win.
