Six GNAC Basketball Players Earn ECAC All-Star Honors
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the 2009-2010 Division III New England Men's and Womens Basketball All-Stars on Wednesday, March 17th, honoring the 16 top mens and womens basketball players from the region. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference had six selections out of the total sixteen on both teams: Ray Askew (Albertus Magnus), Javon Williams (Lasell), Bryan Rouse (Emerson), Lamonte Thomas (JWU), Kendrae Walker (Albertus Magnus) and Iman Davis (Emmanuel).

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference had six selections out of the total sixteen on both teams: Ray Askew (Albertus Magnus), Javon Williams (Lasell), Bryan Rouse (Emerson), Lamonte Thomas (JWU), Kendrae Walker (Albertus Magnus) and Iman Davis (Emmanuel).
The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation’s largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with approximately 300 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. The ECAC publicizes the achievements of over 750 student-athletes annually through the postseason all-stars. In men's and women’s basketball, the ECAC names one Division I all-star team, one Division II all-star team, and four regional Division III all-star teams (New England, Upstate, Metro, and South).
Men’s Basketball
Ray Askew, Albertus Magnus- First Team
Sophomore forward Ray Askew (Hamden, CT) who was named GNAC Player of the Year was named First Team All New England this afternoon. Askew averaged 22.2 points per game (19th nationally) and 12.2 rebounds per game (8th nationally) to lead the Falcons from a preseason number one ranking to a first place finish in the GNAC regular post seasons. Albertus Magnus was ranked 35th nationally in scoring while ranking 9th nationally in blocked shots per game and 6th nationally in defending the three pointer.
Bryan Rouse, Emerson College- Second Team
Rouse is a four-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference first-team All-Conference selection. He completed his career as the third leading scorer on the Emerson College NCAA list with 1,819 points. This year he averaged 19 points per game to lead the Lions and was the team’s second leading rebounder.
Javon Williams, Lasell College- Third Team
Williams’ ECAC honor can be tacked onto an outstanding year of accomplishments for the sophomore student-athlete. He was also selected to the First Team All-Conference in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as well as the GNAC 2010 All-Tournament team. Williams is ranked in the top ten in nine statistical categories in the GNAC, as well as listed in four NCAA Division III national rankings. He led the Lasers in points, rebounds, field goal percentage, steals, and blocks this season, and finished third on the team in assists. He has scored in double-figures in 29 consecutive contests, dating back to the 2008-2009 season, and produced 12 double-doubles this season. In just two seasons with the Lasers, Williams has amassed a career total of 698 points, 329 rebounds, 75 steals, 57 assists, and career field goal percentage of 54.3%. He is currently 11th in all-time scoring and 9th in all-time rebounding at Lasell, and holds the school record for total steals in a season, making 54 steals in the 2009-2010 season.
Lamonte Thomas, Johnson & Wales- Third Team
Johnson & Wales' sophomore LaMonte Thomas was also selected to this year's all conference first team after leading the league in scoring with 605 points, averaging 24.2 per game. Thomas finished the season ranked 17th in rebounds (5.4), 9th in assists (3.1), 5th in free throw pct (.789), 14th in steals (1.4), 10th for three point fg pct (.375), 5th in three point fg made (2.5), 10th in assists turnover ratio (.7), 10th in defensive rebounds (4.6), and led the league in minutes played with 35.9.
Women’s Basketball
Kendrae Walker, Albertus Magnus- First Team
Junior center Kendrae Walker (New Haven, CT) added First team All New England honors to her resume. Walker was named the GNAC Player of the Year and averaged 19.6 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game this season. The Lady Falcons surged in the second half of the season finishing in third place, earning a home playoff game.
Iman Davis, Emmanuel College- Third Team
Emmanuel's senior guard Iman Davis has shattered records this season. Not only was she elected to the first team all conference, but this year she broke the GNAC All-Time scoring record. She was ranked 8th in the GNAC with 320 points, averaging 13.9 points per game at the conclusion of this season.
