GNAC Rookies of the Week: September 22
John Blazo (Mens Cross Country, Suffolk), Laura Furfaro (Womens Cross Country, Johnson & Wales), Amy Guttierez (Womens Soccer, Emerson), Sarah Hawkes (Womens Volleyball, St. Josephs - Maine), Eric Moreno (Mens Soccer, Rivier) and Sabrina Salmela (Womens Tennis, Simmons) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookies of the Week.
John Blazo (Men’s Cross Country, Suffolk), Laura Furfaro
(Women’s Cross Country, Johnson & Wales), Amy Guttierez
(Women’s Soccer, Emerson), Sarah Hawkes (Women’s
Volleyball, St. Joseph’s - Maine), Eric Moreno (Men’s
Soccer, Rivier) and Sabrina Salmela (Women’s Tennis, Simmons)
have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookies

f the Week.
Men’s Cross Country – John Blazo, Suffolk,
Fr., Pembroke, Mass.
John Blazo finished the Daniel Webster Invitational in fifth place
for the Rams with a time of 31:47. Blazo was the Rams' top finisher
for the second consecutive week.
Women’s Cross Country – Laura Furfaro, Johnson
& Wales, Fr., North Warren, N.J.
Ran a season-best time of 20:44 over the 5k UMass Dartmouth
Invitational for a 119th place finish, the best finish of the day
for the Wildcats.
Men’s Soccer – Eric Moreno, Rivier, Fr., Lynn,
Mass.
Eric opened his Rivier College career with a goal in the
Mountaineer Invitational Tournament. In Eric's first GNAC game he
scored the Raiders game tying goal.
Women’s Soccer – Amy Guttierez, Emerson, Fr.,
Fredricksburg, Texas
Scored Emerson's first two goals in Emerson's 3-1 victory over
Norwich that led the way to a 2-0 GNAC week for the Lions.
Women’s Tennis – Sabrina Salmela, Simmons,
Fr., Beverly, Mass.
Sabrina Salmela went 3-0 in the GNAC this week. She also had
a
n upset win at the ITA Championship over Elizabeth Anderson of
Vassar, the 21st ranked team in the nation.
Women’s Volleyball – Sarah Hawkes, St.
Joseph’s (Maine), Fr., Pownal, Maine
In a 3-1 week for the Monks, Hawkes recorded 41 kills, 37 digs and
17 blocks. The first-year middle blocker collected a season-high 7
blocks against UNE on September 17th and notched her second career
double-double with 16 digs and 12 kills against Suffolk on
September 19th.
