AMC's Calechman to Receive ECAC Award of Valor

Former Albertus Magnus College baseball player, Kyle Calechman ’12 has been named one of the three recipients of the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Awards of Valor. Calechman, along with Vanessa Rivera of York (N.Y.) College and Pat Quinn of Stevenson University, will be honored at the 2012 ECAC Honors Dinner held in conjunction with the 24th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show, which is taking place Sept. 29 through Oct. 2.

Two Suffolk University Baseball players earned recognition for the 2012 season by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) with All-Region selections. Junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) was a second team selection at the utility position, while sophomore Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.)earned third team honors as a first baseman.

St. Joseph’s Of Maine Captures 2012 GNAC Baseball Championship With 7-6 Victory Against Suffolk

East Providence, R.I. -- The top seeded St. Joseph’s of Maine baseball team captured the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship with a come from behind 7-6 victory against fourth seeded Suffolk in the finals. The tournament was hosted by Johnson & Wales at Pierce Field this weekend. Freshman Nic Lops (South Portland, Maine) was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after delivering a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Monks to the 7-6 victory.

Suffolk University junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) was named NCAA Division-III Pitcher of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week of April 2-8. Mendez threw a no-hitter in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. For his efforts Mendez was also named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week, as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week.

The 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Champion St. Joseph’s (ME) were picked as to repeat and place first in the 2012 preseason poll. Suffolk was voted to finish second to the Monks while Johnson & Wales was picked to place third the conference. Lasell and Anna Maria were voted to finish fourth and fifth while Emerson rounds out the poll in the sixth.
