2013 All-GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Teams Announced
BOSTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced the 2013 All-GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Teams as well as major awards after this weekend’s championship where Lasell College made their No. 1 seed stand up, defeating No. 3 Simmons College, 15-14, with a late goal to seal the program’s first GNAC championship.

Lasell junior attack Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) has been named the 2013 GNAC Player of the Year. This marks the second consecutive season that she has held the honor after leading the GNAC in points (129) and goals (83) while ranking second in assists (46). Her 129 points rank first in the nation while Her 83 goals currently rank tied for fourth among Division III women's lacrosse players. Wuorio scored in all but one contest on the year, including four or more goals in 13 games. The junior recorded 10 points on two separate occasions, netting eight goals to go along with two assists in a 15-6 victory over Nichols on March 12 and later in the year posted 10 points in a 21-9 victory over Emmanuel on March 23 with six goals and four helpers. The Bolton, Mass. native also collected 36 draw controls, 28 groundballs and caused five turnovers on the year.
Simmons College junior defender Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) has been named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year. Martensson helped lead the Sharks defensive unit to a 9.70 goals against average on the year to rank second among all GNAC programs. The junior would have the difficult assignment of covering opponents leading scorers and would lock down some of the best offensive players in the league game after game. Martensson played in and started all 14 contests for Simmons and finished the year with 27 groundballs, 14 caused turnovers and nine draw controls.
After leading Lasell College to the program's first-ever GNAC Championship, Head Coach Caitlin Connolly has been named the 2013 GNAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Connolly has guided the Lasers to a 15-3 overall record including a perfect 9-0 regular-season GNAC mark. In her third season, Connolly has posted a combined 41-13 (.759) record at Lasell and coached the GNAC Player of the Year for the past two campaigns while having a total of 12 players named to the GNAC All-Conference squad over the past three seasons.
Rivier University freshman attack Elena Reilly (Braintree, Mass.) has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Year after compiling an impressive first season with the Raiders. Reilly ranked tied for 11th overall in the GNAC with 51 total points, recording 35 goals and 16 assists. Reilly ranked third on her team in scoring and 15th overall in the GNAC while her 15 assists ranked tied for eighth among GNAC leaders. The Braintree, Mass. native recorded at least one point in every single game on the year including a season-high of seven (five goals, two assists) in an 18-16 victory over last season's GNAC Champions, Norwich University on April 13.
