2012 All-GNAC Women's Tennis Teams Announced

BOSTON, Mass. – Representatives from the Simmons College women's tennis team earned all three of the major honors in the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference awards, released this morning by the conference office. Junior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named the GNAC Player of the Year while her freshman teammate Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) was tabbed the GNAC Rookie of the Year. The Sharks head coach, Bob Rauseo, was picked as the Coach of the Year after leading Simmons to an 8-0 conference mark and the team's fifth consecutive GNAC Championship.

Teague enjoyed an impressive junior campaign playing out of the No. 1 singles and doubles spot for the Sharks. During the regular season, Teague posted a 5-0 singles record in GNAC action while recording a 5-1 doubles record with Cokely. Overall, Teague collected a total of 18 wins (eight singles and 10 doubles) en route to leading the Sharks to their fifth straight conference title. Teague was also named to the GNAC First Team All-Conference squad for singles and the GNAC Second Team All-Conference squad for doubles.

Cokely dominated for the Sharks out of the No. 3 singles spot compiling an overall singles record of 11-2, going undefeated at 5-0 in the GNAC. Teaming up with Teague, the duo produced the 5-1 GNAC record out of the No. 1 doubles slot. Overall on the year, Cokely was able to register 22 total wins with 11 in both singles and doubles play and was named to the GNAC First Team All-Conference squad for singles and the GNAC Second Team All-Conference squad for doubles.

Rauseo earns the GNAC Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his eight year tenure at Simmons as he also was recognized by the conference in 2005, 2006, 2008 & 2011. Under his guidance, the Sharks completed the regular season sweep, going 8-0 in league play en route to their fifth straight title after they were able to defeated Emerson College, 6-3, on Sunday, October 21 for the Championship. Since taking over at Simmons, Rauseo has compiled an overall record of 107-42 while recording an impressive conference mark of 74-2 over that span.

With their GNAC Championship victory, the Sharks will compete in the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament in the spring.
